'tis the damn season...

It always leads back to you and my hometown..."Yes, mom, I have my passport with me." I can't help but chuckle at my phone and my mom's remark to have my passport ready, although I am already in line for airport security.
Although it's a blessing to have two citizenships, it's still confusing to the police officers at the airport, and I need twice as long for security."I am waiting outside with Jasmine," my mom informs me, because she wanted to pick me up from the airport. I end the call after saying goodbye, but I can't help but wonder why Jasmine is with her. I mean, she is my mom's best friend and has been for as long as I can remember. Not only that, but I just assumed she was busy with her own family over the holidays.
My thought is interrupted. I am now talking to the man and explaining to him why I have two passports with me, just as usual.

Walking to the exit of the airport is a way through hell. After one guy asked for a photo, everyone started taking pictures of me; even Paparazzi showed up. How on earth do they always know where I am?!
I am able to disappear from them somehow; I guess years of publicity training came to use. The crowded area around the exit might have had a little effect, and I perhaps just slipped out of their view.
Either way, I am now to see my mom's black Range Rover and three women in front of it talking to each other. Two of them I know; it's my mom and her best friend, but the other woman is taller. But she seems to have also just landed here, hence the little red luggage case next to her.
It's just as my mom saw me that all three women turn in my direction, and I recognize the taller woman.
Last time I saw her, she looked so different. Not at all worse or something; just so different, but I couldn't figure out what changed. I mean, of course her hair is a little shorter, and she must've colored it a little lighter.
When she noticed me, she looked shocked. I came up to them, and my mom immediately hugged me tight. I froze when Aubrey's glance caught mine, and we locked eyes after my mom let go of me.
Jasmine hugged me also and welcomed me back; I thanked her.
"Hey," the one who has been silent for the whole time said. Although she didn't say anything until now her eyes spoke words as loud as the planes taking off behind us, I just couldn't figure out what they were saying.
I can only imagine it must've been a blur of unexpectedness, confusion and a tiny bit of happiness. Or maybe I am just delusional, and she was just shocked to see me. But shocked is an Understatement if you ask me how I felt about seeing her here.
I mean, our parents being lifelong friends makes this all a little less unusual, but it still took me a few seconds to settle into the situation.
"Hi, it's nice to see you again." I smile towards her. A subtle smile formed on her lips. "You too, Y/N," Aubrey speaks. And she speaks with such honesty that her eyes now appear to speak my language.
"Come on, you too; let's get you both home; it's far too cold here." Jasmine speaks, and my mom immediately unlocks the car for us and runs to the driver's side to get in, as does Aubrey's mom on the passenger side.
I open the trunk and put my luggage inside. As I turn to my side, Aubrey struggles to move her luggage since one wheel got stuck under her baggage. I go over and carry it for her. She looks at me while I put it into the trunk and close it.
"Thanks, I couldn't do it." She thanked me and smiled. "Of course, Aubs." And at the name, she smiled even more. I wouldn't say she blushed, but there was definitely a hint of pink on her cheeks that I didn't notice before...
We all got into the car after I opened Aubrey's door for her and got in after her.
This is going to be an interesting drive back home....
