𓆝It's never just about the holidays.

The familiar creak of the front door sends a wave of nostalgia through me as I step inside my moms house, she decorated for Christmas. Everything smells like cinnamon and cloves, and the air feels warmer than I remember. Home always does that—wraps you in something soft.
The drive was not too awkward. Though it felt like a throwback to old times. There was a time Aubrey's or my mom drove us around all day. To school. From school. To Hobbys. To eachothers houses. The backseats of our parents were our second home.
After putting away my luggage in my old room I come back into the living room and see my mom preparing, what seems to be a Christmas buffet for lots of people.
„Mom whats all this for?" I asked her bluntly.
„Honey didn't I tell you, this year Christmas party is today." when mom told me about the annual holiday party, I remembered all those years of our family hosting friends in our house.
The kids running around. Feliz Navidad and Last Christmas in the backround of chattering everywhere. Those nights were my perfect definition of Christmas. Surrounded by the people you love.
We heard someone coming through the front door. „Honey, I'm home!" Dad yelled.
„I asked your Dad to pick up hickory honey ham, I must've forgotten it." mom told me.
When he came into the kitchen he pit the ham on the counter and gave me a big hug.
„My favorite daughter, she is back from the city." dad spoke in amusement but I knew him too well, he almost cried a small tear.
„Haha dad, i missed you too, but Im after all those years still your only daughter." i laughed.
After my mom occupied dad to help her prepare for dinner, she told me I was supposed to take a break and settle in.
Actually I was happy my mom kinda kicked me out the kitchen, I really had to settle in, but more importantly I had some emails to respond to. Work before pleasure right?
When I was unpacking my suitcase, I found the perfect thing to wear tonight. A velvet blue suit and ofcourse my black converse.
A bit gold jewelry and I am ready to go. But before I do so, I HAVE to take a much needed nap. Airports are energy draining af.
