late july 2018
it had been a relatively quiet day at the shop. fleur was looking through the spotify playlist as she messed with the songs in queue.the frozen yogurt shop fleur worked at in madrid was never busy. she had gotten this part time job to pay for her studies and her football. moving away from her family was tough, but studying someplace other than home had always been a dream for fleur. when she was younger, she wanted to travel the world, visit new places, learn new cultures.
if that had meant as a footballer, fleur would gladly follow her sister's path.
however, she wanted one year to study in spain. an art school in madrid had an exchange program with the private school fleur attended, and she couldn't let this opportunity pass by.
with her mothers blessing, she moved to madrid for her last year of secondary school.
fleur was snapped out of her daze as a regular placed their frozen yogurt on the scale.
"hola andres, cómo ha sido su día? (hi andres, how was your day?)"
"hasta ahora ha sido genial, ¿día tranquilo hoy? (so far so good, quiet day today?)" the man grins as he gives fleur cash, she rings it up.
"sí, me estoy preparando para cerrar pronto. (yeah, i'm preparing to close soon)" fleur says as she gives him the reciept.
"¡que tengas un excelente día! (have a great day)"
fleur waves goodbye as the song changes once more. the dutch girl goes to wipe down some counter tops before going to the back to check the frozen yogurt supply. they had enough for the next day probably, fleur would have to go down to the local store and buy the ingredients after work today. she'd probably have to come in early tomorrow just in case they run out. fleur makes mental notes to do it after she closes the shop for the day.
as she comes out, her eyes widen astronomically.
there are twenty or so girls in the shop. ivan would faint if he saw this. they're all talking and pointing at the toppings and the flavours.
so much for a quiet day.
fleur takes a deep breath before bracing herself to walk out.
"¡bienvenida a ivan's yogur helado! avísame si necesitas ayuda en algo. (welcome to ivan's frozen yogurt! let me know if you need any help with anything)" fleur greets the teenage girls thare are about her age.
the girls murmur hellos, but eventually turn back to the self serving station.
fleur notices they're all wearing the same outfit, but doesn't think much of it.
one by one, the girls pay for their frozen yogurt, fleur tries not to widen her eyes as she notices the amount of money the shop is making right now. they usually would be lucky to even get 20 customers in a day. today however, they got 20 in less than an hour. adding on to the fifteen or so that came earlier in the day, it would be a very successful day.
fleur lets a deep breath out as she smiles towards the second to last girl who takes her frozen yogurt cheerily with her receipt. all the girls have settled on waiting outside the small store, blocking the street. fleur turns her head to see the last girl filling two cups.
one is plain vanilla with a couple of strawberries on top, but the other chocolate yogurt, topped with gummy worms, m&m's, basically anything she could stack on the girl did.
fleur smiles softly as the girl approaches the counter. the girl smiles brightly and fleur can see her braces through the warm smile.
"fucking hell, i'm going to kill you elena." the girl mutters. fleur stares confusedly, not understanding the catalan words.
