(Taehyung's POV)
I felt tired, the kind of tired that could only be fixed by good food and the promise of something sweet. I have been hearing about this bakery's legendary pastries for weeks, and today, I am so excited to finally try them.
The line outside the tiny shop snaked around the corner, a few eager customers clutching their bags like they were holding onto treasure. It has been almost fifteen minutes, my stomach seems growl louder than the street noise. As I approached the counter, a woman slipped ahead of me — long hair, brown leader jacket, quick strides, and a sense of urgency in her every move.
"Great," I muttered under my breath, eyeing the last pastry on the counter. I could already taste it by its aroma. I stepped up, just as the bakery employee called out, "One pastry left!"
But then—she stepped forward, that woman . Without even looking back, she reached for the pastry.
"Excuse me," I said sharply, stepping in front of her. "I was here first."
She didn't even glance at him, still reaching toward the pastry. "Yeah? No one said we were keeping track of the line," she muttered, her voice dripping with attitude.
"Look, I've been waiting here, behind you, for the last fifteen minutes," I replied, my patience already wearing thin. "Don't try to cut in."
She finally turned to face me, her eyes locked onto mine with a level of intensity that almost made me pause. Almost. "Excuse me? You're not getting this pastry just because you decided to stand in line first."
The audacity of her to say this. it's making my blood boil. "I'm not getting it because I stood in line, I'm getting it because I've been waiting patiently for it. But clearly, that's not something you understand."
She laughed, a sarcastic, high-pitched laugh that made my jaw clench, what a bitch. "Oh, right. You think you deserve it more because you're—what—more patient?"
"I'm not here to get into a philosophical debate about patience with someone who can't even wait there for their turn,"I snapped, the words escaping before I could even hold them back.
She narrowed her eyes. "Maybe I don't care about your precious 'turn.' I care about what I've been waiting for all day." Her voice dropped to a sarcastic whisper, but there was something almost mocking in it.
"Well, guess what? I don't care about what you care about," I fired back. "I'm not letting you just walk away with it like you own the place. You're not entitled to it."
The tension in the air was palpable. I felt the other customers around us stop, watching the battle.
"Enough, you two," the bakery employee said, clearly uncomfortable. "There's one left. How about you both make a case for it, and I'll decide who gets it?"
I didn't even hesitate, agreed to it instantly. "Fine. I need this pastry to keep my sisters happy. If I go back empty-handed, I'm the 'worst brother' for the next month. So, for the sake of family peace, you should give it to me."
"Well, I need this pastry because it's the only thing I've been looking forward to all day. I've been dealing with my brother's drama and everything else. I need this for me." She didn't back down.
The vendor looked from me to the her, clearly out of his depth, but then he glanced at me again, probably because of the intense glare I was giving him. Reluctantly, he handed the pastry over to her. Wait, what!?
I couldn't believe it. The nerve of this woman and that guy!
With a triumphant grin, she took the pastry from the vendor. "Better luck next time, buddy," she said with a smirk, clearly enjoying her win. I rolled my eyes.
As she walked away, as I stood there seething, watching her disappear into the crowd.
My grip tightened around the empty space where the pastry had been,I felt my anger rise like a tide, as I felt really annoyed. But it wasn't over. No, it wasn't over.
