"Hello, Mom.

"Dakota, have you left yet? You'll miss out on the Aspen mountains."

"I hear you, Mom. I'm on the way now. I'll call you tomorrow after I get settled in."

"Okay, be careful and have a safe trip, honey. Bye"

"Bye, Mom."

As I put my phone away, I took my eyes off the road for a second. When I looked back up, I lost control of the car, hit some ice on the road, and slid into a tree. When I woke, it was snowing. Snow covered everything. My head was hurting, and I was bleeding. I must have hit my head. I got out of the car and started walking. After walking for a while during the snowstorm, I got very exhausted. I couldn't take it anymore and passed out in the snow.

~~~
"Dakota, Don't go far. Dakota, come now."
Dakota was acting strange. He kept rooting in the snow. I walked over to him to see what he was doing, and right where he was rooting, there was some guy at the edge of my property. I looked around but saw no one, no vehicle, nothing but him. Where did he come from?
"Dakota, stop."
"Stop what?"
The guy on the ground started mumbling.
"If you can hear me. I'm not going to hurt you. I want to help you. I'll be taking you back to my cabin. We need to go now. There is a bad snowstorm coming in. It will be very bad if we get caught out in it."
I got the guy up and put him on my back. We made it back to my cabin. I put him down on my bed and put more wood on the fire in my room. I took off his shoes and covered him with some covers. I made dinner, and I stayed on the sofa. The guy slept until the next morning. As I was cooking eggs, the guy slowly opened the door and came out.
"Hey, there. Come here and eat something. I made dinner, but you were down for the count last night."
The guy nodded. I made him a plate and gave it to him. He sat down at the table and started eating. He must have been starving. He ate everything I gave him. After finishing his food, he took his plate to the sink and washed it. Then he sat at the table, and I made him some coffee.
"I cleaned your wound on your head. Do you remember what happened to you? Where you're from or going?"
He looked confused.
"I can't remember."
"How about you're name? Do you remember your name?"
"No, I don't. Where am I?"
"Aspen."
"It sounds familiar, but I don't know why."
"Okay, I'll call you Aspen until we find out who you are and where you belong."
He nodded.
"I needed to get Dakota back in the cabin. The snow is starting to get bad again."
"Dakota?"
"Does that sound familiar?"
"Yeah, more than Aspen does."
"Okay, maybe we're getting somewhere."
"You have a dog?"
"Yes, are you okay with a dog?"
"Yeah, I think."
"Okay, let me bring him in, but if he bothers you, I'll put him in my room until you want to rest some more."
"Okay."
