Watching the coven laugh as I exclaimed that I wanted to join them on their so-called quest awakened something in me I never knew existed. "And why would you want to, my dear? You don't have magic." She glanced at my mother with amusement, followed by a disgusted look from Evanora directed at me. The potion witch, who had just spoken up and embarrassed me in front of my mother, hadn't lied. I didn't have magic. Most witches received their magic around the age of nine, and I had been hopeful for about three years after I'd passed that age. But now, just a week away from sixteen, I had lost all hope. I don't know why the witch's comment made me so angry. I had accepted it, right? The thing is, I don't even think I was mad at her; I was mostly mad at myself. But I needed a place to express my anger, and the bold potion witch was still standing before me. So I lunged and jumped on the young girl. She hadn't expected it and immediately fell to the ground, pinned under my fuming body. The other witches gasped and took a step back. But one of them, a protection witch, broke away from the group and tried to pull me up. When this didn't work, she braced herself and blasted an orange beam of protection magic at me. That was when I finally let go of the girl. Within a few seconds, I was lying on the cold earth. At first, it hurt, but after a while, it didn't affect me anymore. I could only feel my anger, building and building until it exploded in a raging storm I could no longer contain. I could feel the icy pain turn into burning heat as I stood up and brought my arms forward. The orange magic of the protection witch turned into a purple stream that soon reached the woman's heart. "No, wait!" I screamed. "I don't want to do this!" I quickly withdrew my hands, but it was too late. The witch's face turned gray, and I had to watch in horror as she fell to the ground. She was dead. She was dead because of me. I killed someone. And not just someone, I killed a coven member. There was a second of silence before everyone started screaming. My mother grabbed me by the shoulder and swiftly dragged me back to our home. While walking beside her, I couldn't help but turn around and look at the body. I was surprised to see that it was surrounded by a mysterious green glow.
