After the surgery, Alex stayed close to Alexis while she rested in recovery. As the medical team ran additional tests, a hospital security officer approached Alex with news.
"We've reviewed the security footage and checked the substance Alexis ingested," the officer said. "It wasn't just tea—there were traces of a sedative mixed in."
Alex's jaw tightened. "Who did this?"
The officer hesitated before continuing. "The tea was purchased earlier today, and the person who picked it up was her stepfather, Steve. He signed for it at the café. When we questioned him, he admitted to tampering with it."
Alex slammed his fist on the counter. "That bastard."
Mark, who had overheard the conversation, placed a hand on Alex's shoulder. "Calm down. We'll deal with him legally. She's alive, and we'll make sure she's safe from now on."
Alex took a deep breath, his anger barely contained. "I need to call her uncle, Aaron Hotchner. He'll want to know about this."
Meanwhile, in her hospital room, Alexis stirred awake, her voice weak. "Alex? What's happening?"
Alex moved to her side, his expression softening. "You're safe, kid. But we know who hurt you—Steve. He's not going to get away with this."
Tears filled Alexis's eyes, but she nodded weakly. "Thank you... for protecting me."
Alex vowed silently to ensure she'd never be in harm's way again. With her uncle Aaron and their family's support, they would make sure Steve faced justice.
