Her last class was history, her favorite. She was good at history, even a bit of a nerd, but maybe that was because the studies in her home country seemed to be much more advanced than what she had here.

And that's why she was lost in drawings she was making in her notebook. They were varied drawings, some of superheroes, others of monsters, and some even of historical figures they were studying in class. She loved sliding the pencil across the paper, seeing the image in her mind begin to form on a piece of paper, becoming real. It was incredible.

"Milena Lopes!"

Her name, called out loudly and clearly by the teacher, was enough to make her jump out of her chair, almost falling as she raised her eyes, confused and a little startled. It was the second time that day, maybe she was really distracted that day.

"Sorry, I was... distracted."

She smiled, but the teacher remained serious.

"You're paired with Jasper Hale for the project."

The air left her lungs and Milena was sure she couldn't breathe. And well, neither could the blond boy who sat a few tables away from her, and it seemed like he was going to break the table at any moment. It must have been quite a scene, both of them sitting there, still, motionless, while the bell rang and everyone moved around them. She didn't know what to do, it was impossible to move.

"Teacher..." She stood up quickly, grabbing her things as she went to his desk. Jasper still seemed to be sitting at his desk, glued to it as if he would float away if he let go. "Hm, wouldn't it be possible for us to do the homework separately? Or to have a change of partners?"

Because he clearly didn't like the idea of being with me, she thought, clutching the strap of her bag, and she forced herself to look only at the man in front of her as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. The professor was a man in his fifties, bald, overweight, and Milena liked to think he was quite fond of her.

"I'm sorry, Miss Lopes, your assignment is with Mr. Hale, I'm sure you'll give me a great assignment like always" And just like that, he was gone.

"Great, so it's just you and me..." and there was no one else there. Alone. "Oh, what an honor, Miss Lopes, to do the assignment with someone as cool as you. Oh no, thank you, Mr. Hale, the honor is mine, I heard you always get good grades."

The brunette grumbled as she made her way out of the school. This was torture. How could that boy just leave her like that, without even resolving the issue about the assignment? Milena was starting to think she had done something terrible to them.

She was adjusting her hood when she saw Jasper Hale and his entire family standing by the expensive car, talking as if they were normal. As if that blond boy hadn't left her behind without any answer. She took a deep breath, and imagined herself walking forcefully up to the Cullens, and imagined herself asking for a plausible explanation for the disrespect and... She didn't do any of that. She made her way all the way home.

Milena had only one car... which wasn't hers. It was Marcus's, her mother's husband. She almost always used it, a small, old black car, but since the accident... She couldn't touch the car, she would much rather walk a thousand times. It was a good walk, about 25 minutes, but she was used to it, it was great for clearing her head.

When she got home, it was silent, and all she did was sigh. The worst of silences was the silence that wasn't asked for. Her house was never silent before everything happened, but now... Now it seemed like the silence followed her wherever it could.

She opened the door knowing no one was waiting for her, the week of mourning was over and her mother needed to go back to work, and that was good, she knew it was good. Her mother was a woman who, if she stayed still, it would be bad, she needed to live, she needed to move on, and again Milena thought she should have left.
But in the end, all she decided was that she had to go to sleep early.

When she woke up it was only because she was feeling very cold. A cold that made her grunt and wonder if someone had opened her window, and she wished it was. She wished it was, but when she got up, in a startle from knowing that light very well even with the sky still gray, she swore softly at the sight of snow. Snow, that wasn't possible, how could the gods be so stupid with her? Was it punishment for her having chosen that city instead of the sunshine of her hometown? Was it that? It couldn't be.

She grumbled all the way to her bathroom, while getting ready, and grumbled even louder when she saw that her mother had already left. Behind her was only the table with the jug of coffee made, a banana, and a note.

"Dear,

Don't walk to school today, it's dangerous. Use the car.
W

ith love,
Mom.
ps: If you go walking, wear my brown coat. It's really cold."

Yes, it was really cold, and Milena wanted to cry. She wanted to crouch down there, clutching her knees, and she wanted to cry because she shouldn't be the one driving the car that day, it should be him... Marcus.

She didn't cry tho, she was strong, she just took the banana, put the coffee in a thermos, and started her walk to school. She didn't know if she could ever drive that car again, she didn't know if she could drive again. She thought it was a crime for that country to give cars to teenagers, she was sure of it. And as she walked, she began to regret not having taken her mother's coat, because she was right, it was really cold, and even though she was wearing a beanie, a hood over it, two long-sleeved shirts under her coat, Milena could still feel her bones freezing. How could people like that?

"Finally."

She sighed as she saw the school, entering the parking lot as she felt her legs heavy from walking in the snow, and damn it, no one talked about that in the movies. Milena certainly hated snow. But there was one thing she hated more at that moment, and it had a first and last name. Jasper Hale. No, cut it out, she was hating the Cullens. All of them. They acted like they were a big thing, like they were better than everyone else who studied there.

And when she realized it, she was taking long, big steps, with great anger, and was only stopped by Alice's scream, and the Cullens who were before seven, were now six, and Edward was helping Bella?
