She was crazy. Yes, she was sure she was crazy, she was hallucinating things, insane. It had to be the cold. Definitely the cold, the cold must do this.

I'm definitely crazy, she thought as she gripped the strap of her bag and listened to the murmurs of everyone around her about how Edward had saved Bella. Some people whispered that he was apparently with her all the time, by her side the whole time, and Milena was starting to want to believe that story. Because the other alternative was that Edward Cullen had run from one end of the parking lot to the other and stopped a van. It was madness. She was crazy.

"Hi."

And now one of the reasons for her madness was right in front of her. Small, with pixie hair, incredibly golden eyes, and a huge smile on her face. She was shorter than Milena, but somehow seemed bigger than her. Milena knew her well. Alice Cullen. Alice Cullen was standing right in front of her, preventing her from entering her classroom.

" I'm pretty sure this isn't your class. " the curly-haired girl commented, looking around as she spoke, a foolish attempt to understand where the other girl had come from.

" Yes, you're right," and more smiles. Milena was starting to get slightly scared, and so she took a step back. "I came to talk to you, actually."

" To me? Why? " she asked, a hand on her chest as she didn't understand why Alice Cullen wanted to talk to her.

It was madness, and she was going crazy from repeating that it was madness. But why did Alice Cullen want to talk to her? Maybe she had seen her confused face and thought she was crazy?

"Jasper . " she smiled, as if it was obvious what she meant and the girl just blinked. She didn't understand. " Jasper is your partner, right?"

She blinked again, and in the meantime, she noticed that the strange Cullen hadn't blinked even once. Strangely still, with a smile on her face, and suddenly Milena found herself in a horror movie. Maybe Alice was a possessed, murderous doll? The Cullens were a couple of witches who had enchanted dolls and she was going to become food...

" For the history project? He told me. " Alice blinked, her mannerisms more human. " He asked me to tell you that he couldn't come today, he caught a cold, but he asked me to give you his number? So you could coordinate something. "

She doubted that. She was sure she had seen Jasper with the others, in the parking lot, before the big accident. However, she was also sure she had seen Edward with them and not beside the sheriff's daughter. Maybe her certainties weren't worth anything, and her mind was starting to delirious because of the cold.

" Oh, of course. Yes, right. " She fumbled in the pockets of her bag, opening the small front one and taking out her old, cracked-screen phone. " Hm, I think it's easier if you tell me and I type it. I don't it want to hurt you. "

" Don't be silly. It's okay! "

Alice laughed, taking the phone and starting to type the numbers of what Milena thought was Jasper's phone. Weren't they dating? She was sure the rumors were clear in saying that they were dating, couples among them, the Hale twins with the Cullen children. So if they were dating, was it normal for the girl to give the number to another girl? Not that she was going to steal anyone's boyfriend, she wasn't like that, but there was no way Alice could know, was there?

In the end, Cullen was right. Milena hadn't seen Jasper in class, and when she left she hadn't seen any of the Cullens. They all seemed to have left school very quickly, almost as if they had run away, and she stared at her phone wondering if she should send a message.

She didn't. She went home.

The way back was a little better than the way there, despite her sock being wet from the snow and her throat starting to hurt. She had been caught off guard by that snow, or maybe it was the fact that she had thought she would return to the sun that had caught her body off guard. She felt weak, and she felt tired, that scene repeated in her mind so many times, Edward disappearing, one moment being there and the next not being there anymore. It was all so confusing...

She shook her head, still confused about what was happening in her head, that she only noticed the danger when she heard the horn and a headlight coming towards her. She closed her eyes, she accepted death so easily.

" Lopes! "

She heard someone shout and with a reluctance she shouldn't have, she opened one eye, and there, inside the car staring at her were the Cullens. Or at least some of them, Jasper was still nowhere to be seen. Milena blinked, her knuckles were white from the strength with which she was gripping her bag, and then she started to grope herself to make sure she was alive.

She was.

"Are you okay?" Edward asked, sticking his head out of the car and Milena didn't know if she wanted to deal with that.

She should. She should smile, blink, and apologize. Say she was fine, and that she was going home. She should be normal, but all she did was turn around and run as fast as she could.

She ran a lot, and when she realized it, she was home. It had been fast, she was always fast, but she wasn't in the headspace to think about it. Why had she run? She didn't know how to answer. It was as if her body had reacted automatically when she saw the golden eyes staring at her. It was as if she knew it was dangerous. That she had to run.

At home, she threw herself on the couch, closing her eyes and trying to understand what she had done and how she was going to face the Cullens the next day.

Maybe she wouldn't.

When she woke up, it was to the smell of shrimp, and there was soft music coming through the air along with the smell. She knew the music well. Her mother was a big fan of the King of Pop and Marcus was a big fan of shrimp. The combination of the two was at least once a week a show of Marcus trying to win over her mother again - while she cooked. But that couldn't be real, could it? It wasn't possible that this was happening.

She got up from the couch with some difficulty, her body ached, and her head was starting to hurt, it was as if someone was hammering on her head, on the left side, making her almost stumble to the sides, leaning on the furniture in the house as she walked to the kitchen.

" Mom? Marcus? "

She called, raising a hand to rub her left eye as she noticed that the kitchen had different lighting, more yellowish, but soon that went into the background. The light no longer mattered, what mattered now was how the couple in front of her were dancing, how Marcus was hugging her mother from behind, humming the lyrics of the song in her ear, and they both seemed so happy that Milena was afraid she was interrupting something.

" You are ... " Marcus smiled, turning his face to look at her and Milena took a step back alarmed. His eyes didn't seem alive, there was blood dripping from his forehead, and Milena took another step back, not believing what she was seeing. " You're interrupting... Just like you interrupted my life. My marriage. Everything. Always ruining everything. "

With each word Marcus spoke, he took a step towards her and Milena took a step back. It was as if she was running out of air, as if each time Marcus walked, she felt less alive.

She fell, she tried to look for her mother but all she saw was Marcus's lifeless face, lifeless eyes, blood dripping, too close.

Milena was sure she was going to die there.
