Mattheo stood before her, heart beating louder than he would have liked to admit. Her words hung in the air between them, delicate and sincere, and for the first time in ages, Mattheo found himself unsure of what to say or do. He wasn't used to this kind of vulnerability, not from someone like Diana. Most girls threw themselves at him, already ready for whatever he had to offer, but she was different. She was shy and unsure, and yet there was something magnetic about her.

His usual confidence faltered for a brief moment, and his eyes softened as he met her gaze again. Her big doe eyes held a mixture of curiosity and something else—something almost like hope—and it tugged at something deep inside him, something he couldn't quite place.

"I... I don't know what to expect from this," Mattheo finally admitted, his voice almost a whisper, but it was sincere. "But I want to see where it goes, Diana." He took a small step closer, but still gave her space, not wanting to make her uncomfortable. "If you're okay with that."

Diana's smile widened at his words, her cheeks still flushed from earlier, but now there was a different spark in her eyes. Something about the way he spoke made her feel like she was seen for the first time in a way she'd never expected, and it was enough to make her feel brave. She tilted her head to the side once more, a gentle, playful expression returning to her face as she looked up at him through her long lashes.

"I'm okay with that," she said softly, her voice shy but sure. "But you have to promise me something." She looks at him and wonders what he would do.

Mattheo raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What's that?"

She took a small step toward him, her eyes twinkling with a mix of mischief and sincerity. "You have to be patient with me," she said, her voice low but filled with sweetness. "I don't know much about this... dating thing. I've never had a boyfriend, and I don't even know what I'm doing."

Mattheo's smile softened, and the corner of his lips lifted in a way that seemed more like an invitation than a smirk. "I promise," he said earnestly. "I don't mind waiting. I can't promise I won't be a little... persistent, though." His voice dipped lower, playful, as he leaned just a bit closer.

Diana couldn't help but giggle again, the sound light and carefree, something she hadn't felt in a while. "I think I can handle a little persistence," she replied with a grin, her fingers gently tugging at the emerald bow in her hair, trying to hide the sudden shyness creeping back into her.

The moment felt like it could stretch on forever—this soft, tentative connection between them that neither of them knew how to define, but both of them felt completely in the moment. And, for once, Diana felt like she was allowed to be her—not the quiet, invisible Greengrass twin, not the pureblood daughter whose family expectations weighed on her shoulders—but someone who was just starting to learn what it meant to be noticed.

Mattheo stepped back slightly, his eyes scanning her face with a new intensity. "You're not what I expected," he said quietly, his gaze lingering on her lips for just a moment. He couldn't deny the pull he felt toward her—the curiosity, the desire to understand what made her tick, to learn everything about the shy girl who had somehow captured his attention so thoroughly.

"I think you're more than you realize," he added, his voice soft but full of sincerity. "And I think I'm going to enjoy getting to know you."

Diana's smile softened as she tucked a strand of her light blue hair behind her ear, her heart swelling with something she couldn't quite explain. "I think I might enjoy that too," she replied, her voice barely more than a breath, but it held more than just quiet agreement. It was the promise of something new, something unexpected, and most importantly, something real.

For a moment, they stood there in the quiet of the room, the noise of the party continuing around them, but the world seemed to fade away. There was no pretending, no masks, just two people who had somehow found each other in a sea of expectations and secrets.

Mattheo was the first to break the silence, a small, playful grin spreading across his face. "So, how about we start with something simple?" he asked, his voice laced with amusement.

Diana raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "Like what?" Her eyes are genuine with curiosity and wonders what is about to happen

"How about we get something to drink?" he suggested, stepping back a little, offering his arm with a charming, yet sincere, smile. "I'm not exactly great at the whole 'getting to know someone' thing, but I'm sure we can figure it out together."

Diana hesitated for a moment, but then she smiled softly, her heart still racing but in a much different way than before. She took his arm, letting herself be led through the crowd of partygoers, her nervousness fading with every step they took together.

As they walked, Mattheo glanced down at her, his eyes filled with both excitement and something deeper—something he couldn't quite identify yet, but that he knew he wanted to explore. Diana felt her stomach flutter as she glanced up at him, wondering where this new path would lead them.

And for the first time in her life, she felt like she was walking toward something beautiful. Something that was just hers.
