I waved my family off, I just wanted to get to the school already I was so over the masses of people towering over me. I trudged my way to the back- surely no would come back here, right? Minutes passed and no even passed by the door, I didn't really put anything for entertainment except a ball which I decided to absent mindedly throw up and down in the air. Suddenly, the door fling open and I almost dropped my ball.
He was cute, in a weird dorky way- he was if average height, flaming red shirt neatly combed and freckles flecked across his face. He looked abit panicked and in a frenzy. He blurted out,
"Can I sit here?"
He seemed desperate and at the same time embarrassed. I decided to just suck it up.
" 'Course."
He looked at me blankly, but sat down on the opposite side of the compartment. God, he was not making this easy. I looked at him for a minute, before speaking up again.
"What's your name?"
He just looked at me as if I had just sprouted 2 heads, curse my Scottish accent. Was it really THAT hard to understand me?
"Name? Uhm, I'm Oliver Wood" I paused "I'm from Scotland"
He finally nodded, as if had just clicked in his brain.
"Right, of course, my name is Percy Weasley."
Great way to keep the conversation going - to be fair my mind was already in a very distant place away. I wished I was back in Scotland with my family, spending the day out in the fields playing Quidditch. It wasn't fair how first years weren't allowed to try out for teams, I'd have to wait an entire YEAR to play for my hou-
"So, what was Scotland like"
Percy's sudden course of words snapped me out of my haze. Scotland? Right of course, where I grew up. I looked up at him and smirked, he quickly jolted his head towards the window - he was making this too easy.
"Oh, Scotland? Yeh, it was fine yk. Alot of countryside - I loved playing Quidditch in the open fields. No one but me and my family there"
It really was the best, despite the often rain. I was curious where he was from, because from his accent he didn't seem to be from anywhere too sophisticated.
"What 'bout you, where you from?"
God, I hated how my accent was emphasised on certain words. Hated it. Percy looked shocked that I was also asking him a question.
"Devon, it's similar to what you described. Very hilly and alot of fields."
He said this all very quietly and quickly, as if he was ashamed. Devon didn't seem bad, infact I'm sure I would've enjoyed living there if it had open fields. We stayed in silence for a while, I played with my ball and Percy flicked through his magazine.
We didn't say much until the lady with the sweet trolly came around to our compartment. Percy flushed red as soon as she asked if we wanted anything and he shook his head. I pitied him, and bought alot more than I could eat on my own. After she left, I tossed him some of the things I had bought.
"There, to friendship, yeh?" I laughed.
"To friendship." He scoffed and rolled his eyes.
As the skies were darkening and the roads were fading, I glanced at Percy and saw that he had already changed into his robes. I decided that I should probably also change into them, so I grabbed them out of my trunk and pulled them over my head, just as I was finishing tightening them up Percy spoke up again.
"What house do you want to be in?"
Easy, almost any except Slytherin - but I did have one that I really ached to be.
"Gryffindor."
Just then, I finally saw the hint of a smile on his face. Maybe wed actually become friends in the end.
