Alexis winced slightly as Dr. House inspected her wound."I'm fine, House," she muttered, trying to brush him off.
House smirked, leaning on his cane. "Oh, sure, you're fine. That's why you're sitting here in my hospital with a cut deep enough to need stitches and a face that screams exhaustion."
"I've had worse," Alexis replied, avoiding his gaze.
"Ah, the classic 'I'm invincible' speech," House quipped, rolling his eyes. "You overachievers are all the same—one foot in the grave, and you're still saying, 'Just a scratch.'"
Alexis sighed. "Seriously, House, it's not that bad."
"Maybe not, but you're not leaving until I say so," House said firmly. "Now sit still while I fix you up. Unless, of course, you'd rather I sing you a lullaby while you sleep off that adrenaline crash?"
Alexis couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "You're impossible."
"And you're reckless," House shot back with a smirk. "Now hold still before I have to get Wilson to hold you down."
Reluctantly, Alexis stayed put as House stitched her up, his sarcastic commentary filling the room, oddly comforting in its own way .
As House finished stitching up Alexis's arm, Jamie Ross, who had come in from SVU to check on her, appeared in the doorway.
"How is she?" Jamie asked, her voice full of concern as she stepped into the room.
House glanced up, his usual sarcastic demeanor intact. "Oh, she's just peachy. A little scratched up from playing hero, but I've glued her back together. She'll live."
Alexis rolled her eyes. "I'm fine, Jamie, really."
Jamie crossed her arms, giving Alexis a skeptical look. "You don't look fine. You look like someone who needs to take a break once in a while."
House smirked. "Good luck convincing her of that. I've been trying, but apparently, she's determined to add 'martyr' to her resumé."
"Very funny," Alexis said, shooting House a glare. She looked back at Jamie with a softer expression. "Really, I'm okay. Just a little banged up, that's all."
Jamie sighed. "You've got to stop pushing yourself like this, Alexis. We need you in one piece."
"I know," Alexis admitted quietly. "I'll be careful."
"Sure you will," House chimed in. "Until the next unsub or medical emergency comes along."
Jamie shook her head, but a small smile tugged at her lips. "Thank you, Dr. House."
"Don't thank me yet," House replied. "She's stubborn. Keeping her out of trouble is going to take a miracle." Alexis adjusted herself in the hospital bed, her voice soft but steady as she looked at Jamie.
"How's the girl?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
Jamie gave a small smile, stepping closer to her. "She's stable. The team at Grey's is taking good care of her. You got her out just in time."
Alexis sighed in relief, her shoulders relaxing. "Good. I was so worried about her."
Jamie placed a reassuring hand on Alexis's arm. "You did everything right, Alexis. You got her to safety, even after everything you went through."
Alexis shook her head. "She's just a kid, Jamie. She didn't deserve any of this."
"No, she didn't," Jamie agreed. "But thanks to you, she has a chance to heal and move forward."
House, leaning against the wall, chimed in with his usual dry tone. "And thanks to me, you'll have a chance to heal too. Let's not forget the real hero here."
Jamie rolled her eyes. "Of course, House."
Alexis gave a faint smile. "Thank you, Jamie. For everything."
Jamie squeezed her arm gently. "Anytime. Just focus on getting better. We need you back out there."
