The campus was buzzing with the chaos of new beginnings—students hauling boxes into dorms, the sound of laughter and chatter echoing across the quad. You were balancing a stack of flyers in one hand, trying to hand them out to passersby for your club, when you saw him.
Blonde hair slightly tousled, a backpack slung over one shoulder, and a look of pure confusion plastered on his face. He stopped in the middle of the walkway, turning in a slow circle, as if he couldn’t decide which building to head toward.
"Need some help?" you called, stepping forward before he could wander off in the wrong direction.
He turned, his blue eyes locking with yours, and offered a sheepish grin. His accent caught you off guard as he replied, "I’d be lyin’ if I said no. This place is like a bloody maze."
You smiled. “First day?”
“Is it that obvious?” he asked, running a hand through his hair. “I’m Niall, by the way. Just got here from Ireland.”
“Welcome to chaos,” you said with a chuckle, holding out your hand. “I’m [Y/N]. What are you looking for?”
“Uh, dorm 4B,” he said, pulling out a crumpled piece of paper. “But I swear I’ve passed the same tree three times now.”
“That’s because 4B is back that way,” you said, pointing down the path. “Come on, I’ll show you.”
As you led him through campus, he peppered you with questions about the school, the best places to eat, and the easiest way to get to the lecture halls. His enthusiasm was infectious, and you found yourself laughing more than you had all day.
“So, what brings you here?” you asked as you approached his dorm building.
“Needed a fresh start,” he said with a shrug. “Figured college in a new country was the way to go. Though I wasn’t expectin’ to feel this lost.”
“You’ll find your way,” you assured him. “And if you ever get turned around, just text me.” You handed him one of your flyers and quickly scribbled your number on the corner.
He looked at the paper, then back at you, his grin widening. “Guess I’ve already made my first friend.”
“Guess you have,” you said, feeling a small flutter in your chest as he held your gaze a second longer than necessary.
“Thanks for the rescue, [Y/N],” he said as he opened the door to his dorm. “Maybe I’ll see you around?”
“You will,” you replied, already hoping it was true.
As you walked away, you couldn’t help but smile to yourself. Something told you this wasn’t the last time you’d be showing Niall Horan around.
