A cold breeze rustled through the trees and my hair. I shivered, wishing that I had dressed more warmly. Since finding out I was going on a trip to the human world, I did everything I could to make sure everything was packed. However, I was not expecting it to be as cold as it was.
The two other people with me didn't seem bothered by the cold air. I hugged my arms closer to myself as they waited on the side of the road.
Queen Crimson had told me a bit of what was going on. The human world was in trouble and in turn, that meant the Mystic world was going to be in trouble as well. That was all the information they had. Hopefully, the human we were going to be living with had more details.
"Where is he?" the representative for the Bloodmoon Pack, growled. His white hair was a stark contrast to the night.
"Coming," I said. "Crimson said he would get us when he was able to."
"And leave us out here in plain view," the representative for the Obsidian Hearts grumbled. His black hair was tied back in a short ponytail.
I couldn't remember their names. I was terrible with names. Another cold wind blew through and I shivered again. The vampire looked over at me, a slight smile on his face. "Did you forget to dress warmly?"
"I forgot the human realm is experiencing its fall," I said, embarrassed.
"Does the Coven not have their seasons?" the vampire asked.
"They have seasons," I said, my teeth chattering. "We just have the magic to make ourselves warm. I don't want to do anything just yet."
"Could be smart," the werewolf murmured. "I think that's him."
I craned my neck to look around the guys. A sleek black car headed towards where we were standing. In the dim light, I could make out a singular person behind the wheel. The man got out and my instincts went on overdrive. This man was a human.
He eyed the three of us, warily. "I suppose you're the ones I was meant to pick up?"
"Patrick?" I asked. The man nodded. "Give me your stuff. Then get in the car."
We looked at each other, then quickly handed over what we had packed. The werewolf took the front seat, leaving me and the vampire in the back. Patrick moved behind the wheel again and turned around, heading back in the direction he had come from.
"What exactly were you all told?"
I immediately liked Patrick. Straight to business.
"We were told something was hunting the humans," the werewolf answered. "Something big that could expose us."
Patrick nodded. "We don't know what it is, but it has been causing a ruckus for everyone in the town."
"Are the attacks just in the town?" the vampire asked.
Patrick nodded again. "As far as we know. I have done what I can to investigate. That's where you come in."
"What's the plan?" I asked, curious.
Patrick looked at me through the review mirror. "So far, get you kids to my place, get you situated, and then we'll figure it out."
"Kids," the vampire scoffed.
"I'm older than all three of you combined," Patrick said in his no-nonsense voice, though there was a slight edge to it. "Yes, I will call you kids. Have any problem with that?"
"No sir," the vampire muttered.
The rest of the car ride went in silence. I looked out the window in awe of the slight and few buildings throughout the forest that surrounded the area. The forest disappeared and suddenly there was light. A sign blinked on and off next to a building where cars were parked at. Lights hung in front of them, currently red. It turned green and the car started moving again.
