I left that apartment feeling quite hungry. I realized that I hadn't eaten any breakfast, and it's noon. I decided to get some lunch at a fast food restaurant I saw while walking on the main street. I looked at my money that was supposed to last me through the season and I guessed getting a small meal wouldn't hurt. So I headed toward the restaurant, walked in, and ordered some food.
After that, I sat down in a seat that was alone. A young server came and gave me my food. "Thank you." I told her. Lunch was okay, but as I ate, it started to get rainy outside. I shared my food with Song, and watched the rain fall outside.
"Looks like New York is gonna be a struggle." I sighed. "By the time the holidays come, I'll have so much to tell my family." I stood up, ready to go. "Come on, Song." I grabbed her and started to go.
We left, but I wasn't prepared for the rain at all. "Oh great! Rain!" I cried out. Me and Song immediately went looking for a place to stay. Walking around through the rain wasn't easy. We came to a bus stop and decided to wait there for the rain to stop.
"It's fine, Song." I said. "Just a little rain." We sat alone in the bus stop during the rain. How strange, when I first arrived, I was sure it was sunny. "I'm sure we'll find our way through this." I said.
People walked pass us on the busy street. But one woman walking toward us, suddenly tripped in front of us. She yelped as she fell and dropped all of her bags. I noticed Song in front of her. "Song!" I gasped and quickly grabbed her. "I'm so sorry! My cat is new!" I apologized. The woman stood up and fixed her dress. "It's fine." She said. I looked at the bags she dropped, and fruit of all sorts came rushing out. They started rolling out everywhere. I ran and caught them before it was too late. "Thank you!" The woman said as I handed them back to her. "Oh, they're wet." I looked at them and realized they were all quite soggy.
"Don't worry, I got this." I told her. I held up the fruit and slowly used what I had learned about water. In order to start learning the element of ice, you need to at least know the basics of water. I pulled out the water out of the fruit like a sponge, but left the juice inside. The water drops came dancing out and back into the rain. "There." I said, hanging the bag back to her. "It's dry now." She looked completely shocked by this. "Wait, how did you do that?" She asked. "Just a little magic." I replied. "I'm a witch." She appeared quite impressed. Then she looked at where I had been sitting a moment before. "Are you waiting for the bus?" She asked.
"The bus isn't coming for a while." "Huh?" I looked at her, confused. "Where are you trying to go? Aren't you young to be out alone?" I gulped. "Um, I'm trying to find a place to stay." I explained. "I'm visiting." "Oh!" The woman gasped. "Maybe I could help you!"
I stopped. "Follow me." She said, reassuringly. She started to walk off, and I was unsure what to do. I watched her walk away, and I decided to follow. I ran after her and we walked together on the sidewalk. "You're an interesting girl. A witch, I mean." She said. She looked at Song. "What's your cat's name? She's really cute." "Um, Song. I named her Song!" I said. The woman smiled. "My name is Sarah." She said. "What's your name?" "Charlotte." I replied. "Okay, Charlotte, I want to help." Sarah said. I paused. "You don't have to, but thank you!" I said. "Of course." Sarah said. "You helped me, you're all alone, and you have no place to stay, right?"
I knew that was all true. Sarah had an umbrella she held up high above us, and I felt safe under it. I was even relieved, not being in the pouring rain. The rain continued to fall around us as we walked. We eventually came to another apartment building, this time not burned down. Sarah opened the door and let me inside. "Here we go." She said. "This is my apartment." I stepped inside and looked around. "Wow, this is small!" I exclaimed. "So tiny!"
"I know it isn't much." Sarah said. "But you can stay here." I looked at her. "What, really? Thank you!" She smiled. I started to explore around the apartment. It is small, but it was better than nothing. I looked out the window in the living room and saw the outside. The rain out there was slowing down, and I saw this as my chance. But the rain wasn't slowing. It was freezing. This is my chance. "Um, I'm going outside!" I said.
