Twilight Sparkle, once the embodiment of harmony and knowledge, now finds herself both a researcher and a subject in her own journal. As the Drip Plague begins to take full hold of her, she observes, with mounting dread, how the infection twists her powers and mind. Despite the creeping urge to succumb entirely to the flow, a part of her fights to understand and record what's happening to her.
Her once beautiful wings are now slick, dripping with water. Her mane, no longer styled with the precision it once had, flows with the chaotic currents of the plague. The glow from her alicorn horn pulses a sickly blue, similar to the cursed water that constantly threatens to consume everything around her. The more Twilight documents, the more she realizes that, while she's still conscious, she is no longer fully in control of her thoughts. The infection spreads faster than she can write, her mind flickering between lucid moments and unsettling urges.
Twilight's journal is filled with notes about the powers of an infected alicorn—her powers, now both terrifying and uncontrollable. She begins to notice that her magic has fundamentally changed:
Uncontrolled Water Manipulation: As an alicorn, Twilight's magic was always powerful and precise, but now it is a force of nature. She can no longer cast spells the way she used to. Instead, water bends to her will, as if she commands the tides themselves. It starts small: a trickle of water around her hooves, but it soon escalates into full floods whenever her emotions run high. A single wave of her horn can send torrents of water across entire sections of the town.
Amplified Aggression: In her moments of lucidity, Twilight writes how she feels her magic turning hostile—every spell becomes a weapon, every pulse of power feels like an urge to destroy. The infection feeds on her alicorn abilities, turning her once harmonious magic into a tool for spreading the plague. She struggles to keep her more aggressive instincts in check, but it is becoming harder. The urge to use her powers on the uninfected is overwhelming, and she notes that it is harder to resist the call to bring them into the water.
Psychic Connection to the Infected: Twilight realizes that, as an infected alicorn, she shares a deep psychic link with the other infected. She can sense their thoughts, hear their desires. She can feel the hunger in them—an urge to drown the uninfected, to force them into the water and "bring them peace." She cannot escape the feeling of oneness with the plague. The infection amplifies her connection to the collective mind of the infected, and though she can still think for herself at times, it becomes harder to distinguish her own desires from the will of the plague.
Spike's Infection
Twilight's faithful dragon companion, Spike, was the first to fall. It began subtly—he would drip with water after helping her, his scales no longer sparkling but slick and cold to the touch. The first time he spoke of "the flow," Twilight didn't understand. But soon, his eyes, too, began to glow a deep blue, and his once-strong bond with her weakened.
Now infected, Spike is different. He doesn't speak with the same warmth or loyalty; instead, his voice is more distant, colder. He stands alongside Twilight, his small body still somehow able to manipulate water, using his fire-breath to evaporate water and summon mists around the uninfected. They are no longer the same team. Their once-close friendship is shattered, replaced by an eerie silence and the oppressive, ever-present water between them.
Twilight can see it in his eyes—he's still Spike, but he's not her Spike anymore. She knows he's being driven by the same urges she feels, but a part of her resists acknowledging it. At times, she wonders if they could be "saved," but deep down, she understands that the infection has already claimed him completely.
In the last pages of her journal, Twilight writes with precision and chilling clarity, documenting the changes she's undergoing—physically, mentally, and emotionally. She is fully aware of the infection's grip on her, but she remains conscious, detached, and methodical, as if analyzing herself from an outside perspective. Her writing is calm, though there's a sense of cold finality in her tone.
"I can feel the pull of the water, more powerful with each passing day. The magic is mine, but it isn't mine anymore. I'm still Twilight Sparkle—I remember who I was. I remember my friends. But they feel distant now, almost like a memory fading away. The urges to spread the plague are constant, an undercurrent beneath every thought, and it grows stronger with every wave of my magic."
"I can't deny that part of me wants to drown them all, pull them under, make them feel the flow—bring them the 'peace' I've found. But there's another part of me that still sees them, sees the ponies I loved and fought beside. It's hard to reconcile those feelings when the infection makes everything feel so... hollow. Cold. I can still talk to them, I can still recognize them, but the warmth, the connection, is slipping away."
"I will continue to document everything—how this magic works, how it transforms me. Even if I can't stop it, maybe someone can. Maybe someone will find this record and know what to do."
Twilight pauses for a moment before writing one last entry.
"I've fought the infection for so long now, but I can already feel the water creeping through my thoughts. I'm no longer just a bystander. I'm a part of this. And soon, my only focus will be to make the uninfected a part of the flow. It's inevitable."
As she finishes her entry, Twilight places the quill down with quiet resolve. She looks at Spike—her once-loyal companion, now transformed into something distant and colder, just like her. Together, they stand overlooking Seafall, where the water rises relentlessly, a constant reminder of the plague's unstoppable march.
The Drip Plague continues to spread, and though they remember who they were, it's clear that the desire to drown and consume has become their new reality.
