Chapter 1: The new guy

Riley's Pov:
I woke up to a rainy day and saw Maya sleeping beside me. I know how much she would want to sleep in but we can't, it's the first day of school! I nudged her and said,
" Maya get up."
She groaned and turned over. "Oh come on Maya, get up!" I said a little louder but this time, she just threw a pillow at me.
" Alright, I didn't want to do this but you leave me no choice."
I ran to the washroom with a bucket, filled it with water, ran back to the room, and splashed it over her face.
"Alright I'm up! " she said as she jumped up and tackled me. We both fell down laughing.
"Hey what was that for?!" I asked giggling.
"Oh you know what it was for." We smile and get ready, then each grab a granola bar and head out the door to the subway. We get in and I hear Maya say,
"Hey, check out the new guy!" I looked over my shoulder to see a dirty blonde haired boy smiling back at us. I got an uneasy feeling in my stomach and said to her,
"Maya we've been caught!"
She does her little smirk and says,
"Watch and learn." She walked over to the boy and sat beside him.
"Hey Im Maya, your really cute! We should hang out some time. You make me happy! This isn't working out. It's you not me, we can still be friends! Not really." She said as she walked back to me.
"He's available, we just broke up." Is the last thing I heard her say before she pushed me over to him.
"Haiiii! I'm Riley, we were just talking about you."
I heard Maya laughing, which made me stand up and walk back to her, embarrassed. Then our stop comes, yet I see her go back to the boy and as she said,
"Hey Im sorry, I'm sure we could work something out."
She winked and walked back with the boy right behind her, who was deeply smiling.
"Oh hey.. Is this your stop too?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm trying to get to
John Quincy Adams middle school." he responded with a charming smile. My eyes widened with excitement.
"Omg we go there too!"
He chuckled and smiled.
"Alright well we all can go together, Im Lucas by the way." Then I heard Maya say,
"Alright, Lucas tell us something about yourself."
"Well I just moved here from Texas," he responded.
"Wait," Maya started, "So what are you? A cowboy?"
"I guess." Lucas laughed.
"Well enjoy yourself, Ranger Rick." She smiled.
"Ranger Rick?" Lucas asked.
"That's your new name.
Consider it a gift from me." She replied.
"But I like my name!" He whined.
Maya and Lucas both shared a laugh, but I stayed quiet. They kept talking, or should I say, flirting as we kept on walking. I looked down and frowned, checking the time. "Well we better pick up our pace, don't want to be late for the first day of school." I said. We all rushed to school and entered the doors of John Quincy Adams Middle School. Not knowing what awaited us.
