The silence in the garage was thick with tension as Jimin’s words hung in the air. Yn could feel her pulse racing, but she forced herself to stay composed. Every instinct told her this was a trap—whether set by Jimin or someone else, she wasn’t sure yet.
Jimin turned to his men, his tone sharp. “Lock down the perimeter. I want full surveillance on every entry point. No one leaves or enters without my approval.”
He glanced back at Yn, his smirk returning, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Unless, of course, you’re ready to leave, lawyer. Things are about to get messy, and I wouldn’t want you to get caught in the crossfire.”
Yn narrowed her eyes, refusing to back down. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Jimin. If you’re so sure Raul’s guilty, I need to see the evidence you’ve gathered. Or are you afraid I’ll find something that doesn’t add up?”
Jimin chuckled, the sound low and dangerous. “Oh, I admire your persistence, Yn. Fine. You want to see the evidence? Follow me. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
He gestured for her to follow, leading her through another concealed door into what looked like a private operations room. The space was filled with monitors displaying live feeds from various locations, along with stacks of files and encrypted devices.
Jimin walked over to a steel cabinet, unlocking it with a biometric scan. He pulled out a thick file and handed it to her. “Everything I have on Raul’s operations is in here. Financial transactions, offshore accounts, shell companies—it’s all there. Go ahead, lawyer. Pick it apart if you think you can.”
Yn took the file, her heart pounding as she flipped through the pages. The evidence was damning—transactions linked to Raul’s name, suspicious accounts tied to his company, and payments that aligned perfectly with known laundering operations. But something felt off.
“These documents,” she said slowly, “are too perfect. Everything lines up too neatly, as if someone wanted this to look airtight.” She looked up at Jimin, her suspicion growing. “Did you fabricate this?”
Jimin leaned against the table, his expression unreadable. “Think what you want, Yn. The truth is, Raul’s been sloppy for years. I just gave the authorities a little nudge in the right direction. The rest? That’s on him.”
Before Yn could respond, one of Jimin’s men rushed into the room, his face pale. “Boss, we’ve got a problem. There’s been a breach at one of our storage sites. Whoever it is, they’re wiping the place clean.”
Jimin’s eyes darkened, and he straightened, his tone ice-cold. “Looks like our little game is escalating. Yn, you might want to come along for this one. If you’re so keen on finding the truth, it’s time to get your hands dirty.”
As they hurried toward Jimin’s car, Yn couldn’t help but glance at him, her thoughts conflicted. His composed exterior, his sharp mind, the way he commanded attention—it was impossible to ignore. But at the same time, she couldn’t trust him. Could she?
“Do you always drag people into your messes, or am I just lucky?” Yn muttered as they slid into the car.
Jimin smirked as he started the engine, his tone teasing. “Oh, you’re definitely special, Yn. Most people don’t last this long around me.”
She rolled her eyes, but the faintest hint of a smile tugged at her lips. “I’ll take that as a compliment. But for the record, I’m not impressed by the whole ‘dangerous mafia king’ act.”
Jimin glanced at her, his expression softening slightly. “Is that what you think this is? An act? Trust me, lawyer, you wouldn’t like the real me.”
The way his voice dipped, laced with a hint of vulnerability, caught her off guard. For a moment, the bravado was gone, and Yn felt a flicker of something she couldn’t quite place. Before she could respond, the car came to a screeching halt outside one of Jimin’s warehouses.
The scene was chaos. Smoke billowed from the building, and Jimin’s men were already exchanging fire with a group of masked intruders. Jimin’s jaw tightened, and he turned to Yn.
“Stay here,” he ordered.
“No way,” she shot back, already reaching for her gun. “I’m not some damsel you can sideline.”
Jimin gave her a look—half exasperation, half admiration—before they both stepped out of the car. Yn followed him into the fray, her heart pounding.
Inside the warehouse, amid the chaos, they found themselves cornered by two masked men. Yn reacted instinctively, firing a warning shot that made one attacker stumble. Jimin moved like a shadow, taking down the other with precision.
As the dust settled, they found themselves pressed against a stack of crates, breathing heavily. Jimin glanced at Yn, his smirk returning. “Impressive. I didn’t think you had it in you.”
Yn arched an eyebrow, her voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her. “Don’t underestimate me, Jimin. You might regret it.”
For a moment, their gazes locked. The heat of the moment, the closeness, the charged air—it all made the world outside fade. Jimin’s smirk softened, and his voice dropped to a murmur.
“You’re something else, Yn.”
She felt her cheeks warm but quickly masked it with her usual sharpness. “Focus, Jimin. We’re still in the middle of this.”
He chuckled, the sound low and genuine. “You’re right. But this isn’t over, lawyer. Not by a long shot.”
