The sun peeked through the wooden slats of the window, casting faint rays of light across the room. I squinted at the brightness, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. After days of running on fumes, the rest felt... decent enough, I supposed.

Stretching, I rolled my shoulders and glanced down at the leather armor I'd slept in. It was leagues better than my old, pitiful tunic, and for once, the idea of facing wolves didn't feel like a death sentence.

"Alright," I muttered to myself. "New day, new gear, new me."

I sat at the edge of the bed and whispered a voice command to open my menu. I selected Character to pull up my stats.

Leaning back against the wall, I let out a sigh. So many areas needed improvement, and most of them deserved it, too. But I wasn't sure if this Shard had the resources I needed to make progress.

For example, my fishing rod had snapped the last time I used it at the lake. I hadn't found a replacement yet, but maybe I could craft one... if I had logs.

For logs, though, I'd need to level up Timberfelling, and for that, I'd need an axe. Mining could help me gather resources to upgrade my gear without relying on overpriced shops, but I still needed a pickaxe for that.
