A moment later, Laurelle suddenly burst out laughing.
She realized that she could never be completely angry at her mother. It was impossible.
Her mother could be cowardly, frightening, and terrible to everyone. She could have run away hundreds of times, leaving behind friends. Yes, her mother was very flawed.
But to her father, her children, her small family, and even to the Bernice family, her mother was a great person. She gave her children an immense love.
Even in the conversation just now, her mother had been unusually careless, leaving behind so many traces that Laurelle could piece together the origins of everything.
Her mother was right. Laurelle knew that her mother had always been proud of her. And so, she couldn't disappoint her. The aspirations her mother couldn't fulfill, Laurelle would do them for her, and even finish them better than her mother had hoped.
Her mother was just a helpless, pitiful person in this chaotic world.
...
Laurelle left her parents' room and went upstairs to the fourth floor, where her own room was. Across from her room was the library, so it was very convenient if she needed to look something up.
She started organizing her books and materials.
Her goal for this nearly three-month break was to finish the next three years of Hogwarts' curriculum. Essentially, she had already mastered the entire seven-year program at Beauxbatons, needing only practice and further training, as Beauxbatons emphasized practical learning over theory—something quite different from Hogwarts.
All the learning materials and necessary items for the Exchange students had been provided by the school, brand new. Laurelle also had the books from her godmother, Lily Evans, so she now had two sets of books. However, Laurelle was determined to make good use of her new set and study them carefully, using her mother Lily's books only as references. She didn't want to be someone who just relied on the efforts of others without putting in her own effort.
After a few days of not resting and reading through all the Exchange program's books, Laurelle realized that the curricula of the two schools were quite similar. In fact, Beauxbatons even offered more subjects than Hogwarts, making her goal of completing three years of Hogwarts' studies rather easy.
...
In the middle of the summer break, Laurelle received a letter from Beauxbatons carried by an owl.
"Laurelle! Beauxbatons sent a letter for you," Alvar said, taking the letter from the owl and handing it to Laurelle.
She opened the letter and quickly scanned it from top to bottom.
Alvar noticed Laurelle's calm expression as she read and asked, "What does the letter say?"
"Oh, the school congratulated me for being the top student in the exam, among the five schools participating in the Exchange program. They also informed me that I'll be leaving for England from Beauxbatons with four other students who chose Hogwarts."
"You're really first! I knew it! Congratulations!"
Alvar's face lit up with excitement, and he almost jumped in joy. But suddenly, his smile faded as he fell into thought.
"Alvar, what's wrong?" Laurelle asked.
"Haizz, I just realized that if you're representing the school to leave Beauxbatons, I can't go with you."
Laurelle patted Alvar's shoulder and spoke gently, "Isn't it better this way? If I'm there, you wouldn't feel as comfortable."
Alvar didn't quite agree with what his sister had just said. The two of them were very close, and Laurelle spoiled her younger siblings. Aside from studies, she wasn't strict or overly controlling about anything else. She basically let them do as they pleased.
