Bible adjusted the strap of his backpack, his dark eyes scanning the bustling university campus. It was his first day, and while the excitement buzzed in the air, his mind was focused. New beginnings, new challenges. He had no time for distractions.
The dorm building loomed ahead, and Bible quickly found his assigned room. As he pushed the door open, he stopped short.
Standing there, unpacking his suitcase, was Jes — tall, broad-shouldered, with an air of effortless confidence that made him seem untouchable. Bible recognized him immediately. They’d met briefly during orientation. Jes was one of those guys who turned heads without even trying, but Bible had dismissed him as just another typical alpha: charming but insufferably cocky.
Jes looked up, and a slow, easy smile spread across his face. “Well, well. Look who it is. You’re my roommate?”
Bible resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Looks like it.” He stepped inside, dropping his bag onto the empty bed. “Guess we’re stuck with each other.”
Jes chuckled, leaning against his desk. “Could be worse. At least you’re not boring.”
Bible raised an eyebrow. “You don’t know me.”
“Not yet,” Jes said, his voice laced with challenge. “But we’ve got plenty of time, don’t we?”
Weeks Later
Living together was… interesting, to say the least. Jes was loud, always humming or playing music while Bible studied. He left his things everywhere — shoes under the desk, jackets on Bible’s chair. And yet, somehow, Bible couldn’t bring himself to hate it. Jes’s energy filled the space in a way that was oddly comforting.
For his part, Jes was fascinated by Bible. He was calm, reserved, but when Jes teased him — which was often — Bible’s sharp wit never failed to catch him off guard. Jes found himself wanting to know more about this enigmatic roommate who seemed to build walls as fast as Jes tried to tear them down.
One evening, Bible returned to the dorm after a long day at the library. Jes was sprawled on his bed, scrolling through his phone. He looked up when Bible walked in.
“Hey,” Jes said, sitting up. “You’ve been gone all day. Thought you might’ve ditched me for a better roommate.”
Bible sighed, tossing his bag onto his bed. “Not yet. Though you do make a strong case for it.”
Jes laughed, his grin disarming. “You’d miss me, and you know it.”
Bible didn’t respond, but Jes noticed the hint of a smile tugging at his lips.
“You should take a break,” Jes said, patting the spot next to him on the bed. “Come watch something with me.”
Bible hesitated but eventually sat down, keeping a polite distance. Jes clicked play on a random comedy show, but he wasn’t really paying attention to the screen. Instead, his focus kept drifting to Bible, the way his shoulders slowly relaxed, the rare laugh that escaped when a scene was genuinely funny.
Jes felt a pang in his chest. This wasn’t just about teasing or pushing buttons anymore. He wanted more than Bible’s attention — he wanted to understand him, to be someone Bible could trust.
And as the night wore on, with the sound of laughter filling their small room, Jes couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, they’d been thrown together for a reason.
