It had been two months since Bible and Jes became roommates, and their dynamic had shifted in ways neither of them expected. The teasing was still there, but underneath it was something unspoken — a spark that lingered in the spaces between their words, in the fleeting glances and the moments when silence felt more intimate than conversation.
Jes had always been confident in his charm, but Bible was different. He wasn’t easily swayed by Jes’s easy smiles or smooth lines. That only made Jes want to try harder.
One rainy evening, Jes returned to their dorm drenched, shaking water out of his hair like a soaked dog. Bible looked up from his desk, eyebrows raised.
“You’re a mess,” he said, half-annoyed, half-amused.
Jes grinned, unbothered by the scolding. “Got caught in the rain. What’s your excuse for being stuck here all day?”
“Some of us actually study,” Bible retorted, turning back to his laptop.
Jes peeled off his wet hoodie, tossing it onto a chair, and grabbed a towel. “You know, you could take a break every once in a while. Let me show you how to have fun.”
Bible sighed, not looking up. “Your definition of fun and mine are very different.”
Jes walked over, towel draped around his neck, and leaned against Bible’s desk, effectively blocking his screen. “Come on, live a little. Let’s do something crazy.”
Bible glanced at him, unimpressed. “Like what? Dance in the rain with you?”
Jes’s smile widened. “Now that sounds like a great idea.”
Before Bible could protest, Jes grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the door.
“Jes! Stop. I’m not—”
“Trust me,” Jes said, his voice softer now, his grip firm but not forceful.
Outside, the rain was still falling, cool droplets splashing against their skin. Bible stood frozen, glaring at Jes, who was already grinning like a kid.
“This is ridiculous,” Bible muttered.
“You’ll survive,” Jes shot back, stepping closer. “Come on. Just this once.”
Bible hesitated, but something in Jes’s expression — open, earnest, with just a hint of mischief — made him relent. Slowly, he extended his arms, letting the rain soak him completely.
“There you go,” Jes said, his voice low, almost tender. “See? Not so bad.”
Bible shook his head but couldn’t suppress a small smile. Jes noticed, and for a moment, the world seemed to slow.
“You should smile more,” Jes said, his voice barely audible over the rain.
Bible’s eyes met his, and suddenly, the air between them felt heavier, charged with something they couldn’t ignore anymore. Jes took a step closer, his hand brushing against Bible’s.
“Jes—”
Jes cut him off, his voice steady. “I love you, Bible. I know you don’t make this easy, and maybe that’s why I’m so sure. You’re different. And I don’t just mean that in some clichéd way. You make me want to be better.”
Bible’s breath hitched, his usual calm exterior cracking under the weight of Jes’s confession.
“You’re so—” Bible started, but his words faltered.
“Annoying?” Jes offered with a crooked smile.
“Relentless,” Bible corrected, his voice softer.
Jes took another step, closing the distance between them. “And you wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Before Bible could argue, Jes leaned in, his lips brushing softly against Bible’s. It was tentative, uncharacteristically gentle for someone as bold as Jes. Bible’s hands hovered for a moment before he finally gave in, grabbing Jes’s shirt and pulling him closer, the rain mingling with their kiss.
When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless.
“Still think this is ridiculous?” Jes asked, his voice teasing but his eyes filled with hope.
Bible looked at him, his lips curving into the faintest of smiles. “Maybe. But I’m starting to think you’re worth it.”
Jes grinned, his heart pounding. “You won’t regret it.”
As they stood there in the rain, Jes couldn’t help but think that this was only the beginning of something neither of them could have planned — and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
