Valentin quickly scanned their surroundings, his eyes locking onto a nondescript building a few blocks away. "Follow me," he said, grabbing Jennifer's hand and pulling her through the crowded streets.
They dodged pedestrians and cars, weaving through the crowded sidewalks until they reached the building. Valentin produced a key and unlocked the door, pushing Jennifer inside before following her into the dimly lit hallway.
The building was a safe house, a secret haven for vampires and other supernatural creatures. Valentin had used it before, and he knew it was the perfect place to hide out until the danger passed.
As they made their way deeper into the building, Jennifer couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The safe house was eerily quiet, the only sound the creaking of the old wooden floorboards beneath their feet.
Valentin seemed to sense her unease, and he wrapped a reassuring arm around her shoulders. "You're safe now," he said. "No one will find us here."
But as they reached the door to their hiding place, Jennifer couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced nervously over her shoulder, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Valentin's eyes scanned the room, his senses on high alert as he searched for any signs of danger. Jennifer was sitting on the couch, her eyes fixed on him with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
Suddenly, Valentin's phone buzzed, shrill in the silence of the safe house. He hesitated for a moment before answering, his eyes never leaving Jennifer's face.
"Valentin," a low, gravelly voice spoke on the other end of the line. "I see you're hiding with the little human. That's not very smart of you."
Valentin's eyes narrowed, his grip on the phone tightening. "Who is this?" he growled.
The voice on the other end of the line chuckled. "You'll find out soon enough. Just remember, Valentin, you can't hide forever. We'll find you, and we'll take what's ours."
The line went dead, and Valentin's eyes snapped to Jennifer's face. "We need to get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent. "Now."
Jennifer's eyes widened in alarm as Valentin grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Valentin's eyes scanned the room, his senses on high alert. "We've been found," he said. "We need to get out of here before it's too late."
