Rhea

Pain shoots through my temples as I sit up in my bed. The throbbing hangover making my mind go blurry.

I need water.

Clutching my head, I stand and slip on my fluffy grey slippers. Looking at the time it reads 2:14 pm. Great.

A soft humming comes from beyond my door, which I can only assume is Briar. Valerie would have already left for her work by now.

Slowly, I stumble out of my room and into the kitchen. "Good afternoon" briar giggles whilst turning around holding a plate of her world famous chocolate chip cookies. My mouth waters hard.

"Did you have a good sleep?" she asks as she places the plate on the counter and encourages me to dig in. I nod my head before taking a bite.

I moan at the flavour and close my eyes to enjoy the delectable gooey cookie. "Shit, Your cookies get better each time" I grab another and stuff it into my mouth.

"Thank you" she grins, "where were you at the party last night, we couldn't find you"

A small smile creeps onto my lips that are no doubt coated in chocolate, "I met a boy named Ben" a stupid smile plastered on my face as I say it.

"Somebody has a crush" Briar says whilst giving me a knowing smile.

"No I don't" I giggle.

We all sit in a small cafe on the edge of the city. Valerie recently discovered it and we've been coming everyday.

It's small, only a couple of people, the decor is cozy with a Victorian style and the owners are super nice.

I sip on my coffee, the scent somewhat comforting me. A soft hum of classical music playing low in the background.

"I can't believe she did that!" Briar gasps as we all gossip. "Poor Jessica she must be so upset"

Valerie quickly adds, "They only did it because they suspected Jess was seeing another guy." My eyes widen at the fact.

"Well then they all had it coming" I say nonchalantly whilst picking at the blueberry muffin in front of me.

We all chat for a while about the recent drama, our new assignments at school and boys...

"Oh yeah" Briar gasps, "I forgot to tell you Val, Rhea has a crush." With that they both squeal and I roll my eyes.

"Don't lie" I stare at them both in disgust, "I don't."

"Yes you do! They met at the party and were talking all night that's welly we couldn't find her" Briar laughs.

Excitement covers both their faces as they begin to throw question after question at me. "What does he look like?" "What's his degree?" "Does he have a car?"

I sigh loudly. I don't have a crush on Ben, he's sweet and kind and terribly handsome. But I don't have a crush on him.

As I try and answer their annoying questions, my eyes drift off into the corner behind Vals shoulder. The lights are broken over there and the setting sun doesn't help either.

A man sat there. His eyes meet mine and my heart stops for a second. He looks tall but he has yet to stand up, his eyes are a deep shade of brown with small gold flecks in them, his hair is neatly combed back and is a light chestnut brown. His cheekbones are high and defined and his jaw is so sharp it could slice through stone.

My eyes wonder down towards his clothes, his neat business attire seeming out of place. He wears a tight white button up shirt with a few off the top undone, grey slacks and silver rings adorn his fingers.

I stare for a moment breathlessly at his veiny hands and muscular physique. My mouth remains agape as his handsome features.

As my eyes meet his again, I can't help but be intimidated. His eyes are hard and icy. Anger radiates off of him. His fingers tap against the table impatiently.

"Rhea?" My eyes snap back to Valerie as she says my name. "Are you alright?." I nod quickly and take a gulp of my coffee.

Briar speaks up, "Anyway tell us more about Ben." The name rolls off her tongue and in the corner off my eye I see the man grip the edge of the table tightly in his hands.

A small smile graces my face, "Fine," I sigh "he's really sweet, like he talked to me the whole night and he was so funny and really handsome-"

I jump as a loud bang echoes through the small cafe. Everyone's head turns to see the man from earlier but his eyes are only looking at me. I get an uneasy feeling at the pure rage gleaming in his eyes.

His fist is clenched into a fist and from what I presume he had brought it down on the table. Hard.

Silence bounces off the walls until soft mummers break out and everyone begins to go back to normal. "Weird" I mutter before our conversation continues but on a new topic.

The man is soon to leave, slamming the door hard making a shiver go down my spine. Something about him throws me off big time.

I'm not sure if it's the way he only looked at me or the way his anger shakes me to the core.

I try to dismiss the feeling but it keeps coming back and my mind keeps thinking of those eyes.
