The ballroom was exactly as they'd left it, alive with the graceful energy of dancing couples while the music had softened to a steady, rhythmic pulse. Cirice slipped effortlessly through the center of the room, leaving the terrace behind and her fox with it, giving him time to compose himself. A small, satisfied smile tugged at her lips as she approached the section of the room where wine had been laid out, poured by the steady hands of masked spawn waiting attentively for guests to help themselves as they pleased.

She lifted a dark colored chalice and drank deeply, savoring the cool richness of the wine as she downed half of it in a single, unhurried motion – simply because she could, because she had all the time in the world. One of the palace spawn, masked as an exotic bird with towering blue and green feathers, moved forward to refill her cup with a crystal decanter, and she allowed it, watching as the wine rose nearly to the brim and threatened to spill over. She took another generous sip, leaving it still two-thirds full before handing it back to the spawn and drifting away, the faint taste of wine lingering on her lips as she went. A drop of the nectar had slipped from the corner of her mouth. She wiped it away with the back of her hand.

Astarion had re-entered the party; she could feel it in the subtle shift in the air and in the distant murmurs from a group of guests on the far side of the ballroom, fussing over some rowdy fox who had apparently shouldered his way between them and their date.

Typical from a rowdy, starved predator, she supposed. Still, she hardly cared.

She continued drifting through the crowd with calculated ease, ignoring the sharp, predatory gaze that burned into her back as her husband tracked her every movement and counted her every step. He was allowed to know where she was, she wasn't necessarily hiding this time around, but that didn't mean that she'd let him catch her.

Another group of guests began to complain to her left. He was coming closer, and he no longer cared about the festivities around him – the dancing, the music... Cirice spun on her heels with a flourish of her skirt, slipping toward one of the hallways that led to the more private wings of their home. Just before disappearing, she casted a glance over her shoulder and spotted her fox close on her trail, his gaze sharp and intent. She smiled to herself, laughing softly at his persistence, then turned back to the hall, her only goal to lose herself in the maze of corridors and hidden rooms that stretched beyond.

It didn't take long for the music from the ballroom to fade to a hum, becoming quieter and quieter as she navigated around sharp corners and up and down winding staircases, doing her best to keep her excitement as contained as possible. Even with how silently Cirice normally moved, her heels were much too loud on the tile. Without as much as another thought she slipped her shoes off, leaving them haphazardly strewn in one of the sitting rooms to be retrieved by someone else.

Who? That was none of her concern.

"Little rabbit..." Astarion's voice floated towards her from somewhere behind her, melodic and dangerous. He's closer than she thought he was. The realization sends a thrill through her. "Little rabbit... You can't escape me. I roamed these halls two hundred years before you ever set foot here. I know every shadow and corner you'll try to hide in. You're better off giving up. Come to me."

Cirice stops dead in her tracks, her eyes darting down another hall. There's a terrifying truth to his words, and something about it sets her core alight with a twisted pleasure that makes her want to press her thighs together and wait for him to find her.

This game they play – it's no longer a game, but a real hunt.

And for once, Cirice finds herself truly vulnerable.
