A Meeting at School

A hectic Saturday morning at school.

"Mey!" Anna called from afar.

"Anna! Hi... good morning, Na..." Mey replied.

"Have you picked up your child's report card?"

"Not yet, have you?" Mey responded.

"Not yet either; let's go together," Anna suggested. "Mey, what are you doing after? Are you busy today? If not, let's grab coffee, just the two of us."

"I have some flower orders; lots of weddings today, must be a lucky day. I need to get back to the shop to handle everything. I should be done around 4 p.m."

"Sounds good! Let's meet at our favourite coffee shop, Warung Kopi Jawa, at 4?"

"Perfect. After coffee, how about we have dinner together? Bringing the kids?"

"For coffee, I'd love it to just be us. But for dinner, let's bring the kids along. See you later, don't forget!"

Riddles

Mey arrived at Kopi Jawa first. Gosh, I'm so hungry, she thought. She hadn't had time to eat or snack since the morning. She ordered tempe mendoan, Javanese noodle soup, chocolate-cheese martabak, and black kopi tubruk without sugar or milk—all the signature dishes at Kopi Jawa. Anna texted that she'd be a bit late, so Mey relaxed on her own, enjoying her Javanese noodle soup with chopped green chili and sweet soy sauce.

A familiar man named Bong approached Mey in the middle of her enjoyable noodle slurping. Mey was startled and blushed, caught with her mouth full of noodles as she looked at Bong.

"Bong! How are you?"

"You look like you're really enjoying that soup, my lady!" Bong teased.

"Oh, you embarrassed me! You just popped up out of nowhere." Mey surprised.

"How are things? Is Aristo well? Is your marriage going well? Aristo treating you right?" Bong asked, laughing.

"Oh, of course... everything's fine. And you?"

"I'm good. Lucky for you things are well, or I'd regret losing to Aristo by just one step."

"Matchmaking is in God's hands. Hopefully, your match is close, Bong. I'm off the market now... unless you want to wait until I'm widowed at, say, 80 years old. Haha... but that'd be way too old!"

"Clever as always... are you waiting for someone? Or are you actually alone here? If you're alone, I can keep you company until you're done."

"I'm waiting for a friend, Bong. It's okay, go ahead if you're done."

"Alright, I'll head out then. See you, Mey. Stay healthy."

"You too... take care of Aristo at the office, Bong, and you two better behave!"

Not long after, Anna arrived, jogging lightly.

"Hey, sorry, I ended up being the late one."

"It's fine, Na, I'm just having a late lunch myself. Have a seat and order," Mey said, handing her the menu.

"Excuse me, I'd like to order," Anna called the waiter, who promptly came to their table.
