He woke from his memories with a deep sigh as he looked at the large paper he had pinned beneath the eight others on the wall. He wrote on it: "Rejected for the same reason... Mona's father is crazy."

Whenever Khaled heard the word "crazy," he always thought of Mona's father. And it wasn’t just Khaled, but all the people in the village. However, Khaled knew his madness more than anyone: since he had finished his studies and decided to propose to Mona, he was shocked during his first visit to ask for her hand when her father looked at him strangely and asked:
"You want to marry Mona?"
"Yes."
Then he asked again:
"And what have you done with your life?"
Khaled's face turned red, and he became flustered, as if he hadn’t expected such a question. Finally, he replied:
"What have I done with my life? Actually, I graduated from the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University... And you know my parents passed away when I was young, so I live with my grandfather... I’m exempt from military service... and I’m currently looking for a suitable job..."
Mona’s father interrupted:
"And what makes you different from anyone else that I should marry my daughter to you?!"
He ended the meeting with a firm rejection.
