"What do I do... what do I do?!"
Huening Kai huffed out a strained breath, his wings wrapping around his figure like a blanket, as if they were trying to calm his anxious mind down.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't calm down at all. Not when he practically screwed up his first ever mission that was given to him! This was bad, really really really bad! He's going to get killed for this!
Closing his eyes for a brief moment, he paused his steps and focused on the air around him, but to his avail, there was no hope. So with a loud groan, he opened them again and turned around, taking in the pretty view of the mortal world in front of him.
It was late at night, far too late for the normal person to be awake, the moon was high in the sky scattered with countless stars dancing all around it, and the city below glowed with soft golden lights. He tried to admire the view, he should've found comfort in it all — the stars, the night breeze, the soft hum of the mortal world — but no matter how hard he tried to pretend all was okay, the panic in his chest refused to settle down, not even for a second.
Huening Kai clenched his jaw tightly, his hands trembling and his wings twitching for some kind of relief to distract him from the chaotic storm that was brewing inside of his head. But no matter how hard he tried, no pretty lights or rancid air could fix what he had done, he had really messed up.
It was a simple mission, just a simple mission that should take no longer than two hours to complete, but nope! Fate had gone the wrong way and now here he was, drowning in his mess that he created himself!
He should've been more careful, he's trained for over one hundred years for this! There's no way that a damn frisbee or a bird would mess everything up, but here he was! Maybe he should've listened to Sunoo and just waited before heading out, but he was so eager to get this mission done and over with, to finally achieve that "official cupid" title that he long waited for!
Instead, all of his dreams and hopes probably sank down to the farthest part of Tartarus! He was screwed if he doesn't find a way to fix this, he was screwed if he doesn't get Sunghoon and Jake to fall in love in time. This was supposed to be an easy mission, not a fate threatening one!
Never in millions, billions, trillions of years (he's over exaggerating, but it certainly feels that way) has a cupid or cupid-in-training messed up this bad. Eros and his cupids were best known to spread the best kinds of love there was all over without fail! Those who were destined to be, those who were fated to be, soulmates and all, always fell in love with each other, always gained a happy ending with one another.
But here he was, officially about to become the worst cupid ever, named the worst cupid-in-training in all of Mount Olympus because of this mistake! They'll tell his story to cupids in the future, warning them to never be like Huening Kai, the cupid who ruined the fate of so many couples!
Huening Kai felt tears beginning to sting, so with a shaky breath, he closed his eyes and tried his best to focus. Just feel the connection, you can still fix this. Just... feel the connection, feel where the love arrow had went, feel the heartbeat and emotions!
He began to push himself further, straining the little energy he had in order to feel that faint head that would lead him to the people he had struck his arrows with, cupids always had this skill, in order to keep the location of their targets there was always a faint connection leading to them, but for some reason, his was barely there.
