The fire in the hearth crackled softly, casting flickering shadows across the cabin walls. Emily sat on the couch, her fingers gripping a mug of tea that had long since gone cold. She replayed the encounter with the stranger over and over in her mind, dissecting every detail, every word.

Liam was across the room, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, his face a mask of frustration and concern. His usual calm, brooding demeanor had been replaced by a restless energy that made the air between them feel charged.

"We can't stay here," he said abruptly, breaking the silence.

Emily glanced up, startled. "What do you mean? We're safe here."

"For now," Liam said. "But that thing—whatever it was—found us. And it won't be the last. This place is a beacon now. It's too dangerous to stay."

Emily set her mug down, her hands trembling. "Then where do we go? We don't have a plan, Liam. We're just running blind."

He pushed off the wall and began pacing, his agitation evident. "We need to find allies. People who know more about the curse, the prophecy—anything that can give us an edge."

"And who exactly are these allies?" she asked, her voice tinged with skepticism.

Liam hesitated, his jaw tightening. "There's someone I know. Someone who might be able to help."

Emily raised an eyebrow. "Might?"

"It's complicated," he admitted, avoiding her gaze.

She stood, crossing her arms. "Complicated how? Because last time I checked, we didn't have the luxury of complications."

Liam finally looked at her, his expression hard to read. "His name is Sebastian. He's... an old friend."

"An old friend?" she repeated, narrowing her eyes.

"Yes. And he's dangerous," Liam said bluntly. "But he knows things. Things that could help us."

Emily's stomach churned at the thought of seeking help from someone Liam described as dangerous. But they were running out of options, and the weight of the curse was pressing down on her more heavily with each passing day.

"Do you trust him?" she asked.

Liam hesitated, and that hesitation was answer enough.

"I trust that he'll do what's in his best interest," he said carefully. "And right now, helping us might align with that."

It wasn't exactly reassuring, but Emily knew they didn't have time to be picky.

"Fine," she said. "Let's go see this Sebastian."

Liam nodded, though his unease was palpable. "We leave at dawn."

The night passed slowly, the weight of their decision hanging over them. Emily couldn't sleep, her mind racing with questions about this mysterious Sebastian and what kind of help he could offer.

When morning came, they packed their things quickly and set off. The journey was grueling, taking them through dense forests and winding mountain paths. Liam led the way with his usual quiet confidence, but Emily could sense the tension in his every step.

They finally arrived at an old, crumbling manor on the outskirts of a desolate town. The building loomed over them, its dark windows like empty eyes staring into their souls.

"Charming," Emily muttered, trying to mask her unease.

Liam shot her a wry look. "Stay close."
