(Ayla's POV)

I never believed in fate. At least, not until the day I found the journal.

I was standing in the dim light of a forgotten corner in the dusty library, my fingers trailing along the worn leather bindings of books that had been untouched for decades. The musty smell of old paper filled the air, mixing with the faint scent of mothballs. It was my favorite place to escape-a place where time stood still, where history came alive in every page.

That's when I saw it.

The journal was out of place, wedged between two thick volumes, its cover battered and frayed, the color faded from years of neglect. It looked like it had been waiting for someone-waiting for me. I couldn't explain why I felt that way, but as soon as my fingers brushed the cover, I knew I couldn't leave without it.

I pulled it from the shelf, careful not to damage its fragile spine. The moment I opened it, I felt it. The pull. A quiet, inexplicable tug at the back of my mind.

The first page was simple enough, just a date, but the words written beneath it were like nothing I had ever seen.

*"The war has taken so much, and yet I feel her presence more with each passing day. How can this be? She is a dream, a memory, and yet I know she is real. I can hear her voice in the quiet moments, as if she's calling me across time and space."*

My breath caught in my throat. Who was this? And why did I feel like this was meant for me?

I turned the page, my hands trembling, my heart racing. The next entry was equally cryptic. A soldier's words. But they weren't just words-they were a plea.

*"I don't know who you are, but I feel you with me. The world is crumbling around us, but you are my constant. I don't know where you are or when, but I will find you. I have to."*

His words were desperate, filled with a longing I couldn't understand. And yet, somehow, I did. A strange connection pulsed through me, like a faint echo of his feelings, reaching through the pages and into my very soul.

I closed the journal, my hands shaking. There was something about it-about the soldier's words-that unsettled me. It felt like... like I was meant to read them. Meant to feel this pull.

But how?

How could I, a historian in the twenty-first century, possibly understand the mind of a soldier from decades ago? I was looking at the words of a man who had lived and died in a different time, a world that no longer existed.

Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that the journal was more than just a relic. It was a bridge. A link between two souls-his and mine.

I ran my fingers over the leather cover, the sensation of something ancient and powerful creeping through my fingertips. The journal was more than just a collection of old memories. It was a message-a message meant for me.

I wasn't sure why I thought this. I wasn't sure how it made sense. But in that moment, I was certain of one thing: my life was about to change.
