Rasa tugged at Alara's sleeve, urging her to move. "We have to get out of here," she whispered, her voice taut with urgency.

Alara nodded, her eyes darting around the courtyard. She could see the gates in the distance, but the invaders had already overrun them. They needed another way out. Rasa pointed toward a side door leading back into the castle, and without hesitation, they rushed towards it. They slipped inside, the heavy wooden door closing behind them with a dull thud. The muffled noise of the battle outside offered little comfort. They were not safe yet.

The hallway they entered was dimly lit, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows across the stone walls. Alara's heart pounded in her chest, her senses on high alert. Every corner, every doorway held the potential for danger. They moved cautiously, Rasa leading the way as Alara followed close behind, her eyes scanning for any sign of movement.

Suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching—heavy, hurried. Alara's breath caught in her throat, and Rasa motioned for her to duck into an alcove. They pressed themselves against the cold stone, Alara's heart hammering as the footsteps grew louder. A pair of invaders, their armor dark and menacing, rushed past them, their swords drawn. Alara held her breath, her eyes squeezing shut as she prayed they wouldn't be seen. The seconds felt like hours, the tension almost unbearable.

Once the footsteps faded, Rasa gave Alara a nod, and they slipped out of their hiding spot. They continued down the corridor, moving as quickly and quietly as possible. The castle, once a place of safety and familiarity, had become a maze of danger and uncertainty. Every turn they took seemed to bring them face to face with more invaders, and they were forced to double back multiple times, trying to find a clear path.

They reached a narrow staircase leading down to the castle's lower levels. Rasa paused, glancing back at Alara. "This way," she whispered, her voice barely audible. Alara nodded, and they descended the spiral staircase, the air growing colder with each step. The sounds of the battle above began to fade, replaced by the distant drip of water and the muffled echo of their footsteps.

They found themselves in a dimly lit corridor as they reached the bottom. The air was damp and heavy, and the stone walls were slick with moisture. Alara shivered, the chill seeping into her bones. They moved forward, the corridor opening into a small chamber. Alara's eyes widened as she saw a figure slumped against the far wall—Davian.

"Davian!" Alara's voice broke, a mixture of relief and terror surging through her. She rushed to his side, dropping to her knees beside him. His dark hair was matted with blood, his face pale and drawn. Alara's hands trembled as she touched his shoulder.

Davian's eyes opened slowly, his gaze unfocused at first, but then he seemed to recognize her. A faint smile touched his lips. "Alara..." he breathed, his voice barely audible.

Tears welled in Alara's eyes as she shook her head. "I couldn't leave without you," she whispered, her voice breaking. She looked down, seeing the wound on his side, the blood soaking through his tunic. It was bad—too bad. Her hands pressed against the wound, trying to stop the bleeding, but she knew it was hopeless. The warmth of his blood on her hands was a stark reminder of the reality she was facing.

Davian's hand covered hers, his grip weak. "Listen to me," he said, his voice strained. "You have to go. Get out of here. Protect yourself... and Rasa. Promise me."

Alara shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks. "I can't leave you," she whispered, her heart breaking. "Please, Davian..."

Davian's eyes softened, and he managed a faint smile. "You're stronger than you think," he said, his voice weakening. "You have to survive... for both of us." His gaze shifted to Rasa, who knelt beside Alara, her expression pained but resolute. "Take care of her," he said, his eyes locking with Rasa's.
