The morning sun rose slowly over the horizon of Ilvaris, its golden light casting long shadows across the peaceful village. The soft hum of the starship was a comforting constant, but Rei’s mind was far from calm.
He had spent the entire night in the cockpit, staring out at the stars, still haunted by the memory of Kae’s departure. But now, as the first light of dawn broke over the landscape, something shifted in Rei’s heart.
Miko’s voice echoed through the quiet ship. “Rei, I’ve found something interesting.”
Rei glanced up, his eyes bleary from lack of sleep. “What is it, Miko?”
“While searching the logs from our previous interactions with the locals, I noticed something unusual,” Miko continued. “Some of them mentioned a settlement at the eastern edge of the planet—a place where few outsiders travel. Kae might have headed in that direction. It is the only lead I could find.”
Rei’s pulse quickened. “Do you think Kae could be there?”
“It’s possible, but I cannot confirm it with certainty,” Miko replied. “However, I recommend exploring the location. It may provide answers.”
Rei stood up, determination flooding his veins. For the first time in days, he felt a flicker of hope. Kae wasn’t completely out of reach. There was still a chance.

Revisiting Memories
Rei leaned back in his seat, his fingers lingering on the control panel as he glanced over at the side console. He opened the files of photos and videos they had taken together on Ilvaris—the adventures they’d shared, the quiet moments, and their laughter during shared meals with the locals.
The images flickered across the screen, each one reminding him of the bond that had started to form between them. Kae’s smile, the glint in his eyes as he shared stories of his travels, the way they had shared silences just as comfortably as they had shared words—everything felt so real.
But now, it was all memories. Memories that Rei clung to, trying to hold onto the hope that somehow, he could find Kae again.
In one of the videos, Rei remembered the moment when Kae had mentioned a place he planned to visit after Ilvaris. “There’s a planet, a few weeks away, a bit isolated... might visit it soon,” Kae had said, though the name of the planet had escaped Rei’s mind. The thought felt like a clue, a thread to follow, though it wasn’t clear enough to be certain.
But the possibilities lingered, faint but hopeful.

A Search for Clues
With a renewed sense of purpose, Rei set the course for the eastern edge of Ilvaris. His heart beat faster as the familiar landscape of the planet began to fade behind him. Kae had left a trail—one Rei wasn’t sure he could follow with certainty, but it was the only hope he had.
As the starship soared through the sky, Rei couldn’t help but think of what Kae had said, the fleeting moments they had shared. He wasn’t just searching for a person. He was searching for something deeper, something he couldn’t quite put into words.
There was hope still left. Maybe Kae was out there, waiting for him, somewhere in the vastness of space. Maybe they were meant to meet again, even if the odds felt impossible.
Rei's heart beat in sync with the hum of the ship as he sped forward. He wasn’t just an explorer of planets anymore. He was on a quest to find the person who had opened his heart in ways he never imagined.
And maybe—just maybe—the journey would lead him to Kae again.
