There are so many different kinds of beautiful flowers here, Shrija said while strolling around their garden in morning. Ayansh and Shrija have a flight in afternoon and Veena wanted to spend some time with her daughter-in-law.Jaydeep is fond of collecting different types of plants. Whenever he goes anywhere, he comes back with the new plant from that place, the joy in Veena's voice shows how much she adores her husband, a smile came on Shrija's face, the couple still is so in love with each other even after so many years of their marriage. You know, my little Ayansh used to love gardening with his Dad, the father-son duo used to spend most of their Sundays in garden at our old house, Veena said with a little laugh reminiscing about her little son roaming behind his father all day.
Another house? Shrija asked.
Yes, we used to live there till 15 years back. My Ayansh spends most of his time there whenever he comes here. Didn't he tell you?, Veena said and then cleared her throat seeing her daughter-in-law's expression.
No, Mom, he...we haven't jelled well yet, Shrija replied, well what's the use of lying here. But the hard fact, she didn't put here is that her husband doesn't even try to talk to her neither he gives her time to try.
Don't worry my child, every relation takes time to grow, Veena said comforting her and herself as well. She knows, her son isn't acting like normal husband he is still running away. Her son always keeps running from every relation, she just only can pray that her son accepts one relation at least in his life. She felt that they have failed as parents as their son couldn't rely on them emotionally, let alone rely instead he has made those huge walls around him that his family never could cross in these years. She was scared if he would let his wife enter beyond these walls, her desperation for his son's happiness cannot ruin this little girl's life. Both sat on the bench they had placed in the middle of the garden under a huge, beautiful and only tree in this garden, which Shrija didn't recognize.
Ayansh was just 12, he went to Kerala on his school trip. The last time I heard the real happiness and enthusiasms in his voice was on the Christmas eve of 2024, that was too just on the phone call. And just like that next morning changed everything, my chirpy, naughty, bright Ayansh lost somewhere with those hard waves of Tsunami. When we reached there, we saw our son lying on the hospital, half dead, covered with those pipes and wires, doctors had to put him in induced coma for days, he had to stay admitted in hospital for whole 5 months. My Ayansh not only lost his eyesight but also lost his smile, Veena said, while her tears found their way to her cheeks. Seeing this always dominating and strong woman so vulnerable and broken, Shrija didn't know how to console her so she just held her mother-in-law's hand.
Perhaps we didn't know how to comfort our scared and traumatized child, who had just lost his eyesight. Perhaps in our pain of seeing our little child losing his eyesight, instead of comforting him, we pushed him so far that he started feeling almost a stranger in his own family, Veena said. He became distant little by little. His this calm and polite demeanor keeps piercing my heart, it would have been better if he just could take out his pain, anger, disappointment, even cursed us, anything but just let us......, a sob escaped Veena's mouth. Then she wiped her tears and looked at Shrija with those hopeful eyes but Shrija doesn't really know what to say in this matter.
