#2: Beloved

“Mamaaa!”

The moment I got home from school, I am shouting for Mama as a sign that I am here already. I immediately put my backpack at the sofa and run my way towards at the back part of our house. There, I saw her collecting all the weeds using the rake, she hauled it through her arms and then put those grasses in the fire.

In the next day, bigla akong napabalikwas ng bangon habang umiiyak. Hinanap ko kaagad si Mama. I saw her in our kitchen preparing for our breakfast. I hugged her waist tightly and cried like a baby. I kept on blubbering some words about my bad dream where she was on it. She kept on caressing my back so I could calm down but to no avail. Suddenly, I felt that it was shaking. Then, there were some murmurs around until it become clear to hear. I slowly opened my eyes and I found my siblings surrounding me.

“Ate, tahan na. Limang taon na ang nagdaan. Wala na si Mama.”

The moment I heard those words again, I came back to reality. I bursted into tears, still grieving for our mother who’d still fought until her very last breath for the sake of her children. #
