Chapter 2
“Wait- What?” Shane said, puzzled. I sighed. I had got this just a week ago when I came to town and claimed to be Sam’s great granddaughter. Although then it was scarier; I was almost dead, Amelie didn’t believe me. Nuff said.
“You remember my older sister, Jess, right Shane?” Michael started.
He seemed to be pushing his mind back to then “Uhh, yeah I think so, she was FIT, she had wavy brown hair and...” he trailed off, realising he was practically describing me, and the penny dropped.
“But-” Eve started but Shane cut her off.
“But you said that she ‘went missing’” He used finger quotations “in Morganville, meaning she was killed”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought and believed until now”
“You know Sam, don’t you” I said
“Sam Glass? Yeah, Michael’s grandfather” Eve answered
“My mum, Michael’s sister, she went to him when she fell pregnant, knowing he had power in Morganville and an influence over the Founder. Sam snuck her out of Morganville and helped her find somewhere to live and raise me but... but...” I looked down at my hands, I couldn’t start crying.
“But they,” Michael continued for me, “came for her didn’t they hun” he looked down towards me, a tear slipped from my eye as I nodded.
‘Be Strong Cassie!’ I said to myself. “Yeah, they came and killed her. Ann and Rick, the people who we were living with, had gone out to the shops. They made it look like suicide but I know it wasn’t” I was freely crying, once again. I decided not to tell them the whole story, details and everything, I laughed dryly “Well, that’s a story for another day. I really need to leave, I’m late-” I cut myself off, glancing at the clock “Fuck, I’m an hour late; Sam will be out of his mind! I need to go.”
I got up from the table, blew them a kiss and practically ran out of the kitchen “See you later guys, I’ll bring my stuff tomorrow” I yelled as I left the house. I walked to my car and pulled my keys from my pocket and unlocked the car. Out of habit I reached to my shoulder to grab my bag but it wasn’t there. Shit. I’d left it in the house. I ran back to the door suddenly realising how late and more importantly how dark it was. Even if I was protected some of them just don’t follow the rules.
I was about to step across the threshold, into safety, when a pair of extremely strong hands wrapped themselves around my waist and pulled me away from the house. I screamed as loud as I could. “Michael!” I yelled and screamed again.
“Shut up” a very angry voice whispered into my ear before placing a hand tightly over my mouth. I struggled and tried to get myself free but he was too strong, I assumed it was a ‘he’ from the height, build and strength I could feel he had.
“Cassie?” I heard Michael yell from the door. I tried screaming again but it came out very muffled. “Let her go Donovan” I heard Michael yell. He seemed to be struggling but he was staying in the house. Eve and Shane were nowhere to be seen.
“And why would I do that? Huh? What you gonna do ghost boy?” he yelled, he sounded like a real evil villain.
Shane and Eve appeared at the door; they pushed passed Michael and came closer to us, both of the wielding silver tipped stakes. Not much help at this moment in time. Shane glanced back at Michael as if wondering why he wasn’t out here trying to protect me.
“She’s protected Donavan, Amelie herself; don’t think she would be very happy if something happened to Cassie, do you?” he countered. Michael was still struggling at the door; it seemed as if he couldn’t leave.
