Boruto POV:
I stood there in my dad's old jacket while everyone around us rejoiced in his return, and the defeat of momoshiki. My mother and sister hugged him, mom even hit him for getting kidnapped, Himawari said he had to buy her the other eight tailed beast plushies in order for her to forgive him. Sarada and Sakura stood by Sasuke's side as they nonchalantly played off their worries, luckily for him neither of the two women hit him, poor guy would go flying.
As for me?
I stood in the center of that rooftop, feeling guilty as hell, and slightly cold. Mom came to check on me when I came out of the portal, which was totally not embarrassing at all since she fussed over me in front of everybody, then scolded me for going in the first place, then scolded me again for cheating in the chunin exams... Long story short, I'm grounded for a few months. But it's alright, dads home, nobody lost a limb... The only bad thing is that kinshiki didn't give Gara a haircut, like seriously, his barber needs to be locked up for that haircut. Overall, the mission went pretty good... Until it suddenly didn't....
Flash-back
I floated aimlessly in an empty void of nothingness, my enemy right in front of me, dressed in clothes that made me wonder if he was really a... Well, he.
"You think you won today brat?" He asked, glaring at me.
"Well considering your body was completely destroyed, yeah, I do." I replied, the sarcasm dripping off my voice.
"I was only the beginning, more will come, each one stronger than the last... Mark my words boy," he said, then he pointed to my eyes. "Those blue eyes will watch everything you've ever cared for burn in an endless fire, there is no stopping it." Momoshiki warned. "They will take everything away from you." He said, finishing up his threat. And as soon as he came, he disappeared. And I returned to the real world...
But not before I caught a glimpse.
Not even I know what I saw...
All I know...
Was that it was terrible, horrifyingly so.
Flash back end
And so there I was, standing there like a fool, trying to remember everything I could of that conversation. Looking for any sort of hint as to what I saw, and maybe a way to stop it. Suddenly, I felt something heavy on my back, sending me a stumbling forward. Looking back, I saw Himawari grinning a wide grin.
"Let's go eat onichan!" She exclaimed with a smile, making me return one.
"Sure, what do you want to eat?" I asked, adjusting her weight on my back to carry her better.
"How about ramen?" She asked, I smiled wide and nodded.
"Alrighty then! Ramen it is!" I exclaimed a little excitedly, getting attention from everyone on the roof.
"Don't count us out." Dad said, smiling as he walked past us. "Meet you at ichiraku's." he said, putting his hands on the back of his head.
"How nice of you to pay for all of us boruto." Mom said, smiling one of those "try and tell me no" smiles as she caught up with dad.
"I could eat." Shikimaru said, walking off with the other kage. Sasuke followed without saying a word, Sakura at his side as the two held hands.
"Please tell me they're joking..." I told Sarada as she walked up from behind to stand at my right, she laughed a bit.
"Oh they're completely serious." She said with a smile. "Besides, you owe me for the chunnin exams." She said, punching me lightly on my shoulder.
"Guess... That... Makes sense." I said, scratching my chin.
"Cmon onichan! Let's go!" Himawari yelled, pointing in the direction of ichirakus.
"Alright alright." I said, walking with Sarada to ichirakus. The rest of the night went well, we all had fun, my wallet got completely emptied, it was a night of pure bliss. Yet, something in me knew this was some kind of calm before the storm, a moment given to me to enjoy... Before it was all gone.
I stood in a void of space, blue in color, vast and glorious. All around me, glowing white moons amongst beautiful galaxies and stars. It was beautiful, like I stood in the center of the universe, overlooking it in its entirety.
"Champion." Something said, it's voice ancient and powerful, but barely over a whisper. I turned my head, and my eyes met a giant white figure with moon-like eyes that stared into the depths of my soul. Looking down I saw the rest of its body, and noticed I stood in the palm of its hand.
"Who... Who are you?" I asked, it did not answer, it merely turned it's head to his left and looked at a planet very far out. I turned my head to look at the planet, and noticed the look of remorse on his otherwise emotionless face. "Is that... Your home?" I asked, he looked back at me and I knew from the look in his eyes that it was.
"You must $#!3 #$ #$#3, champion." They said, they're words unclear and blurred. "The #$#$3 #$#3$#$3 depends #$ #$." They continued, they're eyes staring into mine.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Save #$3#." They said, the moons around me glowing slightly.
"Save who?" I asked, as the energy around us started to seep into me.
"Seek out #$3 #@$ #$3& #@$$ toneri." They ordered, they're other hand coming up to touch my forehead. "I'll wait for you-
Champion."
I sprung out of my bed, hurriedly looking around to check my surroundings, eventually looking in the mirror on my desk and seeing my glowing white right eye staring back at me.
"What the hell?" I ask myself quietly, staring at the mirror in curiosity. But the moment I blinked, my eye turned back to normal, making me even more curious.
"Boruto! Breakfast is ready!" Mom called from downstairs, snapping me out of my trance. I swung my feet over the side of my bed, planting them firm on the ground and standing up, grabbing my jacket that hung from my chair and putting it on.
"Seek out...toneri." Their voice rang out through my head, making me turn around and look around some more.
"Who the hell is toneri?" I ask myself quietly as I brush some hair out my eyes and walk down stairs, smelling the fresh arouma of breakfast. "Oh what ever, it can wait..." I said as I walk into the kitchen, sitting down at the table. Sitting in front of me was a plate of food, like... Lots of food, from hash browns to eggs, to pancakes... You name it all.
"Eat up, it's always good to eat a lot after a big mission to help your body heal better and faster." Mom said, smiling warmly.
"You sure I won't explode?" I ask looking at the plate, then back at her.
"Nope, you have the genetics of two super eaters, you'll be fine." Mom said before walking into the other room.
"Yeah... For ramen." I muttered quietly as I stuffed my face full of food, Himawari already getting her plate cleaned in the sink. As I finished my breakfast, I stared off into space thinking of the dream I had, and what it meant. They told me to save someone, and called me a champion... Champion? Why champion? And who was toneri? So many questions racked my brain, I couldn't get them all straight, but i did know that to find a trail...
You gotta find the footprints.
