chapter eight
—
"Fashion? Grace, be serious. What kind of life are you going to have with fashion?" My father barked.
That's what i wanted to do with my life.
I wanted to study fashion, become a designer, or
even a model. But my father had other plans.
"You got your life back, Grace! You're healthy, strong. This is what you want to do with it? Throw it away?" He yelled, his words felt like a knife.
"you got your life back."
Those words didn't left my mind since he said them.
and that was something i was used to hear.
"It's the only thing that's ever made me feel like I have a purpose!" I couldn't believed I said that out loud.
"Purpose is providing for yourself, having a career that matters! Psychology will set you up for life!"
"Mom didn't even study anything!" I yelled back, using my mom as a good example, that's what I thought.
"Yeah? And look where she is now!" He didn't even blinked as saying that.
The words landed like a slap.
My eyes widen, my lips parting in shock.
His face was full of contempt, he didn't even though about how wrong what he said was.
"She raised us alone, with no help! She gave up everything for us, no thanks to you!" I've never yelled at him like that, never had the courage.
"Don't you dare talk back!"
The worst part was, that i chose psychology.
I chose psychology for him.
I do love psychology, I love understanding people,
I truly believe I see magic in everyone, but that's not what I wanted to do in my life.
That's what he wanted.
IT WAS NIGHT, I WAS STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF MY OLD BEDROOM, bags of all my stuff around me, filled with everything i hadn't packed yet. I needed to make it official, to take everything.
Packing was painful, each item i folded and placed into my bags a reminder of what i was leaving behind.
I was very attached to physical objects.
It was already done, and i couldn't have regrets. Tristan was waiting for me. All i had to do was finish packing and step out the door. Leave it all behind.
The last time i mentioned Tristan, i left mad with tears in my eyes, something that never happened.
My dad took it harder than everyone else.
His eyes was clouded with anger and disappointment, Letting me know what he thinks. Exactly what everyone else was thinking, that im a little girl who don't know what she's doing.
But i was tired. Tired of letting everyone decide for me,
For once, i wanted to control my own life, alone.
I wouldn't let him do that again.
I wished for a peaceful night, one where i wouldn't have to face my father. If he came home, i hoped he would be sober, just this once.
I wanted to see him come back from work not wasted, just this night. My last night there.
