hazel slowly opened her eyes, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains of her apartment. she felt a warmth beside her and turned her head to see louis lying there, still asleep. her heart sank as the events of the previous night came rushing back.

she carefully slipped out of bed, trying not to wake him. his arm was still draped across her waist, his breathing slow and even. her mind raced with thoughts of regret and anxiety. this wasn't supposed to happen.

hazel tiptoed to the bathroom, closing the door behind her. she leaned against the sink, staring at her reflection in the mirror. her hair was a mess, her eyes puffy, and her face flushed. she looked like a disaster. "what have i done?" she whispered to herself. she knew she had to face the consequences of her actions, but she wasn't ready for the awkward conversation that awaited her.

hazel took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. she knew the conversation withlLouis was inevitable, but it didn't make it any easier. she quietly opened the bathroom door and stepped back into the bedroom. louis was stirring, his eyes fluttering open as he stretched.

"morning," he mumbled, his voice groggy.
"morning," hazel replied, forcing a small smile. she sat down on the edge of the bed, her heart pounding in her chest. "louis, we need to talk."

louis sat up, rubbing his eyes. "yeah, i figured we would." he looked at her, his expression a mix of confusion and concern. "last night was... unexpected."

hazel nodded, looking down at her hands. "it was. and i think we both know it was a mistake."

louis sighed, running a hand through his hair. "i know. it just happened so fast. one minute your sobbing to me about elliot and you lay in my arms, and the next... well, here we are."

"i don't want this to ruin our friendship," hazel said softly. "we've been through so much together."

louis reached out, taking her hand in his. "i don't want that either, hazel. you're important to me. but we need to be honest with ourselves. why did this happen? is there something unresolved between us?"

hazel looked into his eyes, searching for the right words. "maybe there is. maybe we never really got closure after our breakup. but i don't think last night was the way to find it."

louis nodded slowly. "you're right. we need to talk about what happened between us, but we need to do it the right way. not like this."

"exactly," hazel agreed.

louis squeezed her hand gently. "i care about you, haze. i always have. but we need to figure out if we're better off as friends or if there's something more here that we need to address."

hazel felt a weight lift off her shoulders. "thank you for understanding, louis. let's take some time to think things through. maybe we can meet up later this week and have a proper conversation about everything."

"that sounds like a good idea," louis said, giving her a reassuring smile. "no matter what happens, i want us to be okay."

"we will be," hazel said, feeling a sense of relief. "we'll figure this out together."
