*Characters: Obito and Tobi
"The rain. It's so soothing and comforting in its own wet, cold, and depressing way," said Tobi as he sat with his back against Obito."
"That would be beautiful if it actually made sense, Tobi."
"Yeah, a lot of things don't make sense."
"I know what you're thinking," Interrupted Obito. "And you make perfect sense."
"Do I? Obito... Do you think mom dealing with the Devil was...right?"
"Is dealing with the Devil ever, right?"
"Then I guess you regret me being here, don't you?"
"Tobi. I love you. You're my brother, and I'm glad that you're here. That deal with the Devil had nothing to do with you. That's on mom."
"Do you hate her for what she did to us? To you?"
"I could never hate mom, Tobi, nor you. She did what she felt she had to do. It's done. We can't go back," Obito replied, his voice cracked revealing a faint undertone of anger. Sensing Tobi's sadness, he quickly replied with a gentler tone. "I feel sorry for her. God only knows, however, she suffers."
"Do you regret the deal that I made, too?" Whispered Tobi hanging his head down.
"That for mother's sake when we die, she will die as well? It would've been nice if you could've discussed it with me first. That we could've ya know, done it together. But no." Obito sighs. "I know your heart was in the right place."
"If I had the power to reverse this..."
"I know Tobi, it's OK. You did the right thing. Sparing mother the possibility of having to bury us. The grief and memories and guilt of it all would kill her. She would face a slow, agonizing, and lonely death."
"That's why I did it. I had to. I mean, we're all gonna die someday day, right?" Tobi's voice going from a quiet assurance to a nervous confidence. We may as well die together. Right?"
"Right, Tobi." A despondent Obito replied. "Right." -----*Stay tuned for the next short story titled, My Beating Heart*
