"You're looking like a hottie." Justin said winking and giving a smirk on his way to his car. I laughed and smiled at him.
"You're looking like a cute fuckboy. Cute? Yes. Fuckboy? Extreme." I said sliding into shotgun. I heard him chuckle before starting his car. His hair was gelled up and he wore a navy blue button up and tan cargo shorts with navy blue vans. I leaned against my door and just smiled at him waiting to burst out into my story.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Justin said adjusting himself in the seat uncomfortably. He pulled out from my drive way.
"Guess who was in the downstairs bathroom when you picked me up!" I squealed. Justin smirked and then after a few moments sighed.
"I don't know Carter! Don't make me guess." Justin said taking a glance at me. I took a deep breath.
"Aunt sky! She convinced my parents to let me go! I leave for New York in 3 days!" I spewed out 90 miles an hour. Justin didn't give me the reaction I was hoping for. He kinda stayed quite and didn't smile as wide. He stopped at a light.
"I'm happy for you." He said giving a fake smile. I scrunched my eyebrows together. I studied his facial expressions and he was revealing nothing.
"What's wrong?" I asked leaning forward towards him. He gripped the steering wheel differently and scratched his eyebrow with his left hand. I watched him take a deep breath. He looked as if he was debating something in his head. His jaw locked and unlocked.
"I'm just gonna miss you." He said at last. I smiled sadly and leaned my head on his shoulder. He sped down Main Street.
"I'm gonna miss you too Justin." I said quietly. He turned down Drew's street and I sat up.
"Besides," I added, "there's always trains, planes, social media." I listed giving him a smile. He smiled back and just nodded his head.
"We're here." He said cheering up. I smiled and looked at Drew's house. A long stone path led to a gate leading to his backyard. I saw lights back there and I heard music and people talking. "Alright, let's go." I said grabbing Justin's arm. We walked towards the gate and Justin unlocked it. He opened it for me and I walked ahead. People we sitting by a fire and some were walking to sit on the patio. I saw a few people night swimming. There was around a dozen playing extreme beer pong where there was buckets not cups and basketballs not ping pong balls. Justin walked with me towards the patio where we found Drew, Devon and some others. With drinks in their hands they welcomed us and gave us all hugs. I awkwardly hugged them all back. Most of the girls were drunk, a few wasted. It was only 8:30 at night.
"Here!" Madison said handing me a mikes hard. I rather drink "girls beer" than regular beer any day. I didn't like the taste of beer. I smiled and thanked her. She wasn't my friend to be honest, but she was always friendly. I saw Bailey and Rosa who are my closer girl friends. They waved at me from the pool. They always looked so confident in bikini's. I on the other hand felt insecure and too skinny.
"Come sit." Drew said pointing to the chair next to Justin and a girl named Chey. I walked over and sat down. Madison's chair was closer to Drew's than anyone's. She touched his hand while laughing. Her long wavy black her fell in front of her face. I should've talked to her more in high school. She seems nice. Well I'm trying to start new adventures, that's my goal. So maybe I should try new stuff tonight, drink more than one beer, talk to more people. Live a little. I took a few sips of my mikes hard.
"So Carter." Devon said. I looked up to see him lick his lips and smirk. I raised an eyebrow.
"You're leaving us for New York?" He asked sitting back in his chair with a light colored drink on ice. I swallowed.
"Yeah leaving with my Aunt Sky." I said with a smile. I drank my beer until only a little bit was left in the bottle.
"Sky Gardner, the writer right?" He asked sitting forward. I nodded and killed my beer. I set it on the table next to the other empty one's.
"Wow sounds like a sweet ass time." He said. "Is Justin going too?" He asked. I saw Justin give him a look and block his face with his hand closest to me.
"Oh uh no, just me. Trying new things, writing a new chapter in my life." I said uncomfortably. He nodded glancing at Justin.
"Want another?" Madison asked me. I broke my confused gaze at Justin to look at Madison. I said sure and I watched her walk to the other end of the patio and went into a cooler. Throughout the night more people showed up, people got drunker, and I myself got drunk. Justin at one point put his hand down and his fingers overlapped my pinky and ring finger. He didn't move them and I gently pulled away to sip my fourth beer. I cleared my throat wondering if he knew what he just did. I felt drunk and warm. It was nice to chill out. Madison was now on Drew's lap. Devon invited Chey to sit next to him and I sat next to no one and Justin who talked to a boy named Charlie. I felt someone sit next to me on my left side. I looked over and saw a guy with his brown hair pulled back in a small pony tail. He smiled at me.
"Hello." He said sitting back in the chair.
"Hey." I said smiling. I felt my cheeks heat up.
"I'm Leon." He said extending his hand.
"Carter." I said extending mine. We shook hands for what felt like 5 seconds too long. I pulled away blushing.
"Would you like a hit?" He asked handing me a blunt. I swallowed. I've only ever done this once before when I was 16. I didn't get high but I felt a little something. I thought about my new chapter in life and wanting to be adventurous and try new things. To be a bad ass!
"Sure, why not." I said grabbing the unlit end.
"What are you doing?" Justin asked taking the lit end and pulling it away from me. He mouthed ow and dropped it into his other hand. I was shocked at his reaction to this. He smokes. Not all the time but he does every once and awhile.
"Living a little." I said taking it back. I looked him in the eyes confused. I put the end between my lips and inhaled, still looking at him. I pulled it away from my mouth and let out a cloud of smoke. Justin just looked at me.
"Since when did you start smoking?" He asked. He didn't look mad he just looked shocked. Devon raised an eyebrow at me.
"Since now." I said taking another hit. I passed it to Justin who took it still shaking his head at me. He put it between his lips and I watched the other end light up red. I looked over to this Leon guy. He was already looking at me with a smile behind his hand. His eyes were droopy and red. I felt my own eyes feel droopier. Throughout the rest of the night I laughed a lot, made new friends and was very open. In Justin's car we stopped at McDonald's, that is after a lot of whining that I was starving. Sitting in shotgun we ate chicken nuggets and dollar sundaes.
"Do you think you're gonna stay in New York?" Justin asked breaking the silence. I licked chocolate syrup off my lips.
"I'm not sure, I just wanna be-" I started.
"Adventurous." He finished for me rolling his eyes with a mouth full of vanilla ice cream. I overly laughed, still high and drunk, and nodded at him.
"Keep a journal." He said after a few minutes of silence.
"Why?" I asked finishing my ice cream. He took my empty cup and put it into the McDonald's bag. He tossed the bag out the window barely making it into the trash can outside. He looked back at me.
"New chapter in your life remember. Make tonight the first page, and just keep the journal. You'll thank me when you're like 40." He said and started to laugh. His laugh made me laugh and we couldn't stop for awhile. I held my stomach feeling it hurt from laughing. After calming down and Justin starting the car again to bring me home I nodded.
"Alright, I will." I said talking about the journal. Justin smiled and continued driving towards my house.
"Goodnight Carter." Justin said unlocking the door to let me out. I smiled at him.
"Goodnight Justin, thanks for making me go out. I had fun." I said stepping out of his car. He smiled at me as I shut the car door. I walked up the path making sure I didn't stumble. When I got to the front door I turned around and waved at Justin. He waved back and drove away. I smiled and opened my front door. No one was awake and I saw my aunt asleep on the couch with a blanket pulled up to her chin. I pulled off my vans and left them by the door. I crept up the stairs and down the hall to my room. I shut the door and turned on my white Christmas lights on my ceiling. I pulled my jacket off. And changed into pajamas. I took off my makeup and went to my dresser draw. I looked around in the draws for an empty notebook. I found one and a pen. Let's start this Journal.
