The wood beneath my feet creak as I hurry down the steps to try and make it on time for the first day.
Am I running cause I'm excited for school? Nope.
I just don't want detention for being late the first day.
"Lydia? Are you almost ready?" I yell to the strawberry blonde girl still doing her hair.
"Just five more seconds!"
I roll my eyes at her answer, "we both know that means 'five more minutes'! And we only have three to get there!"
I grab her keys off the counter, "I'll be in the car!" I shout to her once more before walking over to the mirror for a quick hair check.
I'm so much in a hurry that something glowing almost didn't catch my eyes while I was checking myself.
I feel my eyebrows furrow, and back track to the mirror again.
What's that thing about curiosity people say? That it kills the cat?
Well, I'm killing the cat.
Or am I the cat?
I look into the mirror once more and my heart rate picks up so fast, I don't think it'll go back.
My eyes aren't my normal hazel color.
They're purple.
And glowing.
Is this normal?
What the hell is going...
I think I might faint-
"Ariana!"
I shake my head out my thoughts and turn to the voice, a worried Lydia in my vision.
She steps closer to me, "I called your name like 10 times... Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah, just um, nervous for school..." I say, smiling to her.
Nervous for school?
What the hell is wrong with you?
"You hate school."
"Everyone hates school, doesn't mean you can't be nervous for it."
She stands there staring at me, obviously not believing anything coming out my mouth.
I flash her an awkward smile, "well, let's go! Chop, chop."
I walk out the door, praying to god this car ride is fast and no questions are asked.

I sigh as I open the doors to school, kids running to their classes to get on time.
We got here right when the bell rang because Lydia purposely drove slow to see if I would talk about what happened.
And right when we parked, which she parked all the way in the back, I jumped out and speed walked into the school.
I pull out my phone as I enter the class, which I have with Lydia, taking the empty seat I see. I don't bother to see who's next to it, really.
The screen lights up. One missed call, and two messages from Liam.
I smile at my phone before opening the message.
"Why are you so lateeee? Get here soon, love you."
"Oh, and 'study' date at my house after? (;"
I smile to myself and give him a quick text before the teacher starts talking.
"Lydia was taking extra long, and I'll see if I'm not busy and squeeze you in. (; Love you, see you soon."
