Y/n POV
The rain tapped softly against the window, the steady rhythm soothing yet a little too familiar. I watched Eunbi, her tiny legs crossed on the living room floor, her small hands carefully sorting through the pieces of her favorite puzzle. The quiet hum of her voice filled the room as she turned the colorful pieces over, lost in her world. There was a look on her face that I couldn't quite place, a quiet longing in her eyes, though she didn't understand it either.
I sighed and glanced down at the untouched mug of tea in front of me, the steam long since gone. The rain outside didn't ease the ache in my chest. It had been two years since he left, and no amount of time seemed to fill the hole his absence left behind.
I thought about Eunbi, her bright eyes and boundless curiosity. She deserved so much more than I could give her, but I was doing my best. Still, no matter how hard I tried, there was one thing I could never replace: the fatherly love that she'd lost too soon.
Another sigh slipped out as I pushed myself up from the table and walked into the living room. I leaned against the doorway, watching Eunbi work on her puzzle. It made my heart ache, watching her so focused and content. How could I possibly fill the gap he left?
"Almost done, Mommy!" she said, her face lighting up as she held up the final piece.
I smiled, kneeling beside her. "You're amazing, Eunbi," I whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
She giggled, finishing the puzzle and clapping her hands together. "Look! It's done!"
I pulled her into a tight hug, holding her close. "You're my little genius," I whispered, my voice catching in my throat. After a moment, I added, "I'm sorry, baby. I wish I could give you everything... even the things I can't."
Eunbi tilted her head, her big eyes looking up at me with such innocence. "But you already give me everything, Mommy," she said, her voice pure and certain. "You're the best Mommy in the whole world."
My heart squeezed tight, and tears welled up before I could stop them. I kissed the top of her head and rested my cheek there, holding her even tighter. "Thank you, sweetheart. I'll always do my best for you. Always."
Eunbi snuggled into my embrace, her tiny arms wrapping around my neck. "I love you, Mommy."
"I love you more," I whispered, my tears mixing with a smile.
Outside, the rain softened, as if it, too, understood the bond between us. Though I couldn't give Eunbi the fatherly love she missed, I would do everything I could to fill her world with warmth and strength. In her eyes, it was more than enough.
