a/n: i'm not sure this is a trigger warning but there is mentioning of cancer and if you are not comfortable reading it's okay🫶🏻

the mornings had become the hardest. you'd wake up feeling heavy, your body weighed down by an exhaustion that even sleep couldn't fix. a dull headache had taken up permanent residence behind your eyes, and lately, it seemed like every small task left you winded.

you hadn't told billie. she was already so busy with her music, her shows, her interviews. the last thing you wanted was to worry her. you convinced yourself it was just stress or burnout, that it would pass.

but it didn't.

you sat in the waiting room of the doctor's office, fiddling with your phone but not really paying attention to the screen. the sterile smell of the clinic made you feel uneasy, but you reminded yourself you were doing this for peace of mind. just a quick check-up.

when your name was called, you followed the nurse into a small exam room. the doctor listened patiently as you described your symptoms—fatigue, headaches, occasional dizziness. they ran some preliminary tests, drawing blood and taking vitals.

"we'll need to run more tests," the doctor said, her tone careful. "just to rule out a few things. it's probably nothing serious, but we'll let you know as soon as we have results."

you nodded, trying to ignore the pit forming in your stomach.

two days later, you were called back to the clinic. the doctor's face was kind but serious as she sat across from you, her hands folded on the desk.

"y/n," she began gently, "we've reviewed your test results, and it looks like you have early-stage lymphoma."

your breath caught. the word hit you like a punch to the chest, knocking the air out of your lungs. "cancer?" you whispered, your voice barely audible.

she nodded, her expression full of empathy. "yes. but the good news is that we caught it very early, and the prognosis is excellent. with treatment, there's a very high chance of remission."

you sat in stunned silence, your mind spinning. cancer. it felt surreal, like something that only happened to other people. but here you were.

"okay," you said finally, your voice trembling. "what's next?"

the doctor explained the treatment plan: chemotherapy, regular check-ups, a team of specialists. she reassured you that you'd have support every step of the way.

by the time you left the clinic, you'd accepted it. this was your reality now, and you were determined to face it head-on. but first, you had to tell billie.

that evening, you decided to do something special. if you were going to share this news, you wanted to create a moment of love and connection, not fear.

you set the table with candles and flowers, cooking billie's favorite meal—pasta with creamy garlic sauce and roasted vegetables. you even dressed up, putting on the dress she loved and styling your hair the way she always said made you look "like a goddess."

when billie walked through the door, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes lighting up at the sight of you.

"what's all this?" she asked, dropping her bag and pulling you into a hug.

"just wanted to do something nice for you," you said, smiling softly.

her arms lingered around your waist, and she kissed your forehead. "you didn't have to. but i'm not complaining."

dinner was filled with laughter and conversation, billie recounting stories from her day and cracking jokes that made you forget, even for a moment, the weight of what you had to tell her.

when the plates were cleared, you took her hand across the table, your heart pounding.

"billie," you began, your voice shaking slightly. "there's something i need to tell you."

she immediately picked up on your tone, her smile fading as concern replaced it. "what's wrong, baby?"

you took a deep breath. "i've been feeling off lately—tired, headaches, just not myself. so i went to the doctor."

her grip on your hand tightened. "okay..."

"they ran some tests, and..." you paused, searching for the right words. "i was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma."

billie froze, her eyes widening in shock. "cancer?" she whispered, her voice breaking.

you nodded, tears welling up in your eyes. "yeah. but they caught it early, and the prognosis is really good. there's a big chance i'll beat this."

for a moment, she said nothing, her expression a mix of fear and disbelief. then, without a word, she stood up, walked around the table, and pulled you into her arms.

"i'm so sorry, y/n," she murmured, her voice trembling. "i'm so, so sorry."

you clung to her, the tears finally spilling over. "it's okay," you whispered. "i'm going to fight this. i just... i needed you to know."

billie pulled back just enough to look at you, her green eyes filled with determination. "you're not fighting this alone. i'm with you every step of the way."

that night, billie refused to let you out of her sight. she held you close in bed, her arms wrapped protectively around you.

as you lay there, her fingers traced gentle circles on your back. "you're the strongest person i know," she whispered. "and i love you more than anything. we're going to get through this together."

her words were a balm to your soul, soothing the fear that had been bubbling under the surface all day.

you turned to look at her, your hand brushing her cheek. "thank you, billie. for everything."

she kissed your forehead, then your nose, then your lips. "always," she said softly.

in her arms, you felt a sense of peace you hadn't felt since the diagnosis. you didn't know what the future held, but you knew one thing for certain: with billie by your side, you could face anything.
