Keep running, keep running, escape. These words repeated in my mind over and over as my feet carried me faster than they had ever taken me. I kept running, running until my bones hurt and my lungs burned. Whoever was chasing me was sure to have given up hours ago, but I kept running despite that.
I want to find safety and warmth, anything to save me from this hell of running. Then a sudden warmth hits me in the dead of night. An apartment with the lights on. I decided that's it. That's my safe haven until I find the others. My family is surely looking for me but I don't care. I'm free, I've escaped and I'm not going back.
As I finally head toward this new safe haven it finally hits me. The hours of running, the pain, the burning. It catches up to me and I find my consciousness fading.
No, no, no! I've come too far I can't, not now, not when I'm so close. A bright light hits me and I wonder if I'm dying, but how... I was so close. I was almost there.
(Authors note. Yeah, I wrote a fic that I've been wanting to write since I was 13 who's gonna stop me?)
