"du wirst zu spät kommen, y/n!"
(you're going to be late, y/n!)

"ich komme!"
(i'm coming!)

i snatched my suitcase and ran down the stairs while buttoning my school shirt. at least my hair was tidy, i think.
my brother was also getting ready for work, and when he saw me down the stairs he laughed in my face.

"AUF KEINEN FALL gehst du mit diesem unordentlichen haar raus! du siehst urkomisch au-" before b/n could finish his sentence, i tossed my backpack in his face. that made him laugh even harder.
(NO WAY you're going out with that messy hair! you look hilariou-)

i made it to the location where i'm supposed to meet reo and nagi. it is currently 7:31 a.m, and my brother kept telling me i would be late. seriously?

"oh sorry, did we keep you waiting?"
yes
"no, i just arrived myself."

the purple guy and his tired friend eventually decided to show up. reo appears enthusiastic and excited about it, however nagi .. well, that's a surprise! he's not sleep walking or being dragged by his friend this time!

"yo, how about we skip this program and head to an arcade instead-" nagi received a slap on the neck as reo sarcastically interrupted him. "no way in hell."

the poor man accidentally and painfully gripped his neck. "that slap was personal." i teased, and reo shrugged his shoulders innocently .. "no offense."

i sighed in disbelief, a smile still on my lips.
"let's just head to the japanese football union headquarters already."

"the name is longer than me."

"says the one who's 190 cm-!"

"we're supposed to enter this huge building?" i stated, extending my head to look at the whole establish while crossing my arms over my chest.

"really? not huge in my opinion." nagi followed my eyes to what i was staring at and hummed in surprise with me.

"shut up, rich boy, we get it." and the mentioned boy laughed at my remark. "now let's head inside!"

i began walking with reo, and the purple-haired guy quickly noticed that nagi was not with us. "what is it, nagi?" the sluggish man was still standing in the same spot, staring at the building ahead of us.

..

"what a hassle." with that, nagi tried to run away but both i and reo dragged him, who attempted to escape our grips.

"leave me aloneeee. i just want to sleep and play gam-"
"NO!"
"why are you so heavy??!"
"and so lazy?!"

i entered the large hall after dragging nagi with reo, who immediately rested his head on my shoulder and started playing games on his phone. the other guy gave up and sighed, choosing to focus on where we were instead.

the entire place was full with men, which would be terrifying for any woman. some even spotted me and muttered to themselves about the single girl among them .. "hey nagi, does the offer of going to the arcade and skipping the program still s t a n d .. nevermind." reo gazing at me with a deadly side-eye made me reconsider.

everyone here was tall and muscular, but i eventually regained my confidence and remembered why i'm here in the first place. i lost hope in my dream lately but this is my chance.

it seemed to me that i no longer wanted to become a player, but deep down i've always wanted to be a football player, a striker.

so i'll follow in my father's footsteps. i'll make my brother proud of me.

the room suddenly became dark, except for one spot on the stage. a man with strange glasses and bangs appeared to stand on it.

looks like he didn't sleep in ages. is he okay? i'm genuinely concerned.

"congratulations, you unpolished gems."

"you don't look cool, just to let you know." a person in front of me quietly commented, and i attempted to hold back my laughs. the weird looking man seemed to have heard the joke but chose to ignore it.

"all you under-18 strikers have been chosen solely based on my criteria and biases to be here today .. all 300 of you .."
the man on stage kept yapping things i didn't pay attention to when i heard there were 300 people in this room. damn.

"i am jinpachi ego,

my job is to make japan a team capable of winning the world cup.

you, the last player standing ... will have become the best striker in the world. nice to meet you all."

i felt a shiver travel down my spine, this is what i want. to be the best striker in the world.

"that's it, i'm going home." nagi no longer put his head on my shoulder and tried to leave, but reo stopped him. "what do you mean you want to go home??"

"didn't you hear him? he mentioned only one person will remain standing. we can't be the best together."

reo was taken aback unable to say anything, and i simply stood there. nagi has a point, this is what true egoism refers to.

i realized i wasn't paying attention to ego again, the only thing i could catch from his mouth was "if you desire rebellious egoism, then step through the gate" before a gate opened behind him.

a guy with dark blue hair sprinted with all his strength towards the newly opened door and people began to dash towards the gate as well ..

.. except for me, nagi and reo.

the four-eyed man adjusted his glasses. "you're the only three remaining. are you going?"

"of course we're going! right, nagi? even y/n is coming!" reo replied almost instantly in desperation, looking at his friend who had shifted his focus away from the game he was playing on his phone. i could tell by his eyes that he still hadn't changed his mind. "i don't even want to play."

i took a few steps towards the gate before pausing to gaze at the two boys, who turned to face me.

"i'm not sure whether you've noticed this, nagi, but reo clearly doesn't want to be the last man standing. he's determined to be your midfielder and help you become the best in the world. you may feel lazy, but this is an exceptional chance so don't waste it. discover a new side of yourself. try blue lock and play true football, then decide if this is the sport for you.

well, i'll be the last one standing and the best in the world anyways, so good luck defeating me!"
i grinned sarcastically after my last sentence and waved without looking at them until i passed through the doorway, leaving nagi and reo behind.

by the way reo and nagi are unaware that y/n is the daughter of one of the world's most famous players! she didn't mention it either. y/n took her mother's last name because her father trusted her and wanted her to create an a name for herself rather than relying on her father's family name and status as his daughter.
