The kitchen was dimly lit, the faint hum of the refrigerator still filling the quiet night in the dorm. Jeongin rummaged through the cupboards, pulling out a bag of chips, while Chan leaned casually against the counter, arms crossed as he watched him with an amused smile.
"You always go for chips," Chan teased lightly. "You know, we have healthier snacks, right?"
Jeongin grinned, shaking the bag. "Who eats a healthy late night snack? If we have ice cream right now i'd go for that.."
Chan chuckled, shaking his head. "Fair enough i guess. And I'll get some ice cream today how about that?" Making Jeongin nod happily.
They moved to the small dining table, sitting next to each other as Jeongin tore open the bag. As they shared the snack, the silence between them felt different—not awkward, but charged with something unspoken.
Jeongin glanced at Chan, his heart fluttering again. The way Chan's eyes softened when he looked at him, the warmth in his smile—it was almost too much. Jeongin knew he couldn't keep his feelings bottled up any longer.
"Chan," he started, his voice hesitant but steady, "can I ask you something?"
Chan raised an eyebrow, tilting his head slightly. "Of course Innie. What's on your mind?"
Jeongin hesitated for a moment, gathering his courage. "Do you ever...feel something for someone but you're scared to say it? Like, you're afraid of how it might change things?"
The question hung in the air, and for a moment, Chan's expression shifted—surprised, contemplative. He set the chip he was holding down, leaning forward slightly.
"Yeah," he admitted quietly. "I think everyone feels that way at some point. Why do you ask?"
Jeongin fidgeted with the edge of the chip bag, his heart pounding in his chest. "Because...I think I feel that way about you." He wasn't sure where he got the burst of confidence from but he knew it had to be said at some point. The words were out before he could second-guess himself. His cheeks burned, and he couldn't bring himself to look up at Chan. The silence that followed felt like an eternity, and Jeongin's hands started to tremble.
Then, Chan spoke, his voice soft and steady. "Jeongin, look at me."
Slowly, Jeongin lifted his gaze, meeting Chan's eyes. There was no judgment there, no discomfort—only warmth and something that to Jeongin— looked like understanding.
"I'm glad you told me," Chan said, his lips curving into a small smile. "Because...I think I feel the same way."
Jeongin's eyes widened, his breath catching.
"You...you do?"
Chan nodded, his gaze never wavering. "I've always cared about you, Jeongin. At first, it was just as your leader, wanting to guide and support you. But somewhere along the way, it became more than that. I just.. didn't know how to really say it."
Jeongin felt a wave of relief and joy wash over him, a smile breaking across his face. "I was so scared you wouldn't feel the same..and that you wouldn't want to be involved with me anymore.."
Chan chuckled softly, reaching across the table to gently take Jeongin's hand. "I think we've both been scared. But we don't have to be anymore. And also.. you can tell me the craziest shit but that will never make me love you any less." Chan chuckled lightly
The warmth of Chan's touch sent a shiver down Jeongin's spine, and he squeezed his hand gently, the weight of unspoken feelings lifting off his shoulders.
For the rest of the night, they talked quietly, sharing their thoughts and emotions in a way they never had before. The bond they had built over the years had transformed into something deeper, something they both knew was worth holding onto.
As the first rays of dawn filtered through the window, Jeongin glanced at Chan, his heart full.
"Do you think.. this will change things?" he asked softly.Chan smiled, his eyes filled with a quiet confidence. "It'll change things, yeah. But I think it'll change things for the better."
And as they sat together, hands still intertwined, Jeongin couldn't help but agree. This was the beginning of something beautiful—something that felt like home. Something he knew, they would both hold onto for a lifetime to come.
