A SIGH escaped his lips as he turned off his phone, osamu’s text still lingering in his mind. the blunt words had struck a nerve, leaving him slightly irritated but unable to deny the truth.

he was shy—too shy to admit his feelings for you, his senior who would soon be walking across the graduation stage and out of his daily life.

lost in thought, he rounded the corner, his focus elsewhere, only to stop abruptly when he nearly collided with someone. his heart skipped a beat, startled more by the sudden presence than the near-impact.

“rinrin,” your soft voice called out, snapping him from his trance.

he froze. your gaze locked on his, calm and unbothered, your usual deadpan expression mirroring his own. but for once, his mask slipped. his stomach twisted, and he felt the heat creeping up his neck.

why did just looking into your eyes make him feel so exposed?

"y/n..." he managed to say, his voice unsteady despite his best efforts to sound composed. he cursed himself internally for the crack in his tone, but your blank expression didn’t give anything away. you stood there, staring at him, as if you were analyzing every inch of his being.

the silence between you grew, heavy and uncomfortable. to suna, it felt like an eternity, each passing second only making his awkwardness worse. he shifted on his feet, one hand slipping into his pocket while his mind scrambled for something—anything—to say.

finally, his thoughts settled on the first thing that came to mind. "wh-what are you doing out here?" he blurted, the words tumbling out before he could overthink them.

you raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, as if the question was unexpected but not unwelcome. "oh, i’m on my way to the faculty," you replied simply, your tone calm and unaffected.

that was it. no elaboration, no further explanation. just a straightforward response, leaving suna to flounder yet again.

his eyes flicked downward, catching sight of a faint sliver of paper peeking out from the pocket of your blazer. the color of the envelope sent his heart into a frenzy—he recognized it instantly. it was the letter he had slipped into your locker earlier that day.

a wave of unease washed over him, tightening his chest. you had it. you’d seen it. he swallowed hard, trying to ignore the way his pulse quickened. a thousand questions ran through his mind, each one louder than the last.

had you read it?

what did you think?

did you even know it was from him?

suna’s gaze lingered on the envelope for a moment too long before snapping back to your face. you were still calm, unbothered, as though the letter wasn’t burning a hole in your pocket. the blank look you gave him offered no clues, no answers, only fueling his growing anxiety.

what if you hated it? or worse—what if you hadn’t cared at all? the thought made his stomach twist. he didn’t know which was worse: the possibility of rejection or the idea that his words might mean nothing to you.

noticing the silence stretching between you, you tilted your head slightly before deciding to speak. "i'll see you around, rinrin," you said casually, a small wave accompanying your farewell as you brushed past him without waiting for a response.

suna stood frozen, unable to muster a word as he watched you walk away, your figure growing smaller with each step. his heart thudded erratically, the sound of his nickname echoing in his ears.

rinrin.

the nickname echoed in his mind, soft and familiar, like a melody he’d never forget. you’d given it to him the very first time you’d met, back when you barely knew each other. it had embarrassed him back then, but now, it was a memory he held onto tightly—a piece of you that no one else had.
