[Gilmore Girls, S01 E02, "The Lorelai's First Day at Chilton"]

Diana, Emily, and Richard sat at their table, with the sunlight pouring in through the windows. Diana broke off a section of her chocolate muffin and stuck it in her mouth. With a fork, of course. She wouldn't dare to use her hands in front of her parents.

Just in case her mum spiralled into a lecture about proper cutlery use.

She washed down the hard crust and the soft, melted chocolate inside with a glass of milk and excused herself from the table to go to school.

"Diana, wait." Emily stood up as well. "Would you like to walk together to Chilton today? It's Rory's first day, and I would like to see her and Hanilin." Of course she would put in a good word for Rory.

Sometimes Diana wondered if Emily liked her granddaughter more than her own daughter.

Throughout the entire walk, Emily fussed about Diana taking care of Rory, as she started late. Emily told Diana to introduce Rory to 'your little friend group' and help her make friends of her own.

Diana was a little bit hurt, but she let it pass. It was Rory's first day, and she was going to do these things anyway.

Diana passed Paris crouched in the bushes outside Miss James's office and put together that Rory was there at the moment. She went around the building and waited for Miss James to stop talking.

"Who are you waiting for?" Elena placed her head on Diana's shoulder, and Diana leaned her head toward Elena.

"The President," Diana retorted.

"At least it's someone important." Elena straightened up and tilted her head, wanting an actual answer.

"My niece," Diana answered.

"My goodness, you're old," Elena gasped.

"You are literally older than me."

Elena chose to ignore that. "What's her name?"

"Rory Gilmore."

"Introduce me."

"Of course."

Soon enough, the little woman finished talking, and Rory walked out, looking a little lost. She brightened when she saw Diana, a 'familiar face'. Though it was a bit of a stretch, Diana admitted.

"Rory, meet Elena. Elena, meet Rory. Niece, friend. Friend, niece. All caught up?"

"It is so great to meet you, Rory. I hope we can be close." Elena offered.

"I hope too," Rory agreed.

"Right. Let me give you a tour and show you to your first class, while the impeccable Elena Perez keeps us company with her witty tongue and quick criticism," Diana declared.

The teacher continued to drone on about Tolstoy during Diana's second period. Her thoughts went astray when he mentioned Anna Karenina, but they snapped back into reality when Tristan barged in, close to the end of the class.

"Ah, Mr. Dugray, nice to have you back. I hope your grandfather's better." Diana knew for a fact that Grandpop Dugray was fine. She saw him last weekend.

"Much better, sir." Diana bit her lips to hold back a smirk.

"Good. Take your seat, please."

On his way back, he gave Rory a once-over and smirked. He sat down behind Diana and frantically tapped on her back.
