An abandoned boarding school, where memories cling to the walls like ancient ivy and shadows whisper secrets, lay in the centre of the lost city of MistGist. The previously bustling school halls now reverberated with emptiness after being closed for decades.
A little girl named Melania happened across the school one cold autumn evening. Curiosity drew her in, and the leaves masked her footsteps. A dimly lighted hallway was revealed as the door cracked open. As Melania entered, the chilly air caused her breath to mist.
Her gaze was followed by faded paintings of long-lost classmates on the walls. A half-finished maths problem on a chalkboard, a forgotten violin on a dusty bed and a stack of yellowed letters wrapped with a fraying ribbon were just a few of the remnants of lives that Melania discovered as she wandered through room after room.
The biggest enigma, however, was in the music room. A grand piano with chipped and yellowed keys was there when Melania pushed open the hefty door. After hesitating, she sat down and touched the keys. The piano sounded as though it were waking from a nap.
The room shook as Melania played a timid note. In response, the piano produced a melancholic tune that appeared to emanate from the floorboards. The room began to shimmer as she played, engrossed in the melody. The walls disintegrated, exposing a secret room underneath.
With her heart pounding, Melania climbed down the slender stairs. An unearthly light filled the chamber. Mr. Thomas, the school's former music teacher, stood ghostly in the middle. Centuries of want were in his eyes.
He said, "Melania, you've discovered the Symphony of Lost Students."
She blinked. "What?"
"The piano is a conduit," Mr. Thomas stated. Every note connects a student to this location. You will release them if you play the last chord.
Melania paused. "Why?"
"Because they were forgotten," he explained. Their tales remained unsaid. The song is interwoven with their recollections. They will find peace if you play it.
Melania's fingers were shaking as she sat at the piano. Tears clouded her vision, she performed the eerie tune. The room trembled as the last chord reverberated. Ethereal figures appeared through the shattered walls, the faces of the lost students full of astonishment.
The sound of their laughter was all that remained when they vanished. Behind her, the piano stood silent as Melania emerged from the room. The boarding school's mission had been fulfilled when it collapsed. Yet, she carried the song within her—a revelation that transcended time, a symphony of forgotten students.
