It was the morning of the reaping, Levinie Birch was woken up by her brother, Adam.
Adam was 19 so he had aged out of the reaping and he had gotten a job in a factory to bring food home. Adam was strong and basically lifted Levinie from her bed, and gave her a dress her mother said to be given to her before going to her work.
"Okay, Levenie, put on this dress then meet me in the kitchen for some breakfast." "I'm not a baby, Adam.
I don't need to be carried around."
The two chuckled and then Adam left so Levinie could get her dress on. Her dress was a beautiful with rose and lilac stripes, and she used an old wooden comb to brush her hair the best it could.
Then, Levinie met Adam one door away in the kitchen, where they discussed what is to follow today.
"Well, its your second last year until its over, and your name is only in 6 times so I'd have to say the odds are pretty well in your favor."
Adam said "you wanna go see if we can get some soup tonight? To celebrate not being picked, you know?"
Then Levinie went out the door and began to make her way to to the town square because the reaping was starting soon.
The Capitol worker pricked her finger for some blood and sent her in to the pen with the other scared children.
Although Levinie said to Adam that she was sure she was safe, Levinie felt scared and alone, her friends were in different areas of the square and suddenly the ceremony begun. Crays, the escort and anouncer for Disrtict 3 came up on stage and first played the video.
It was the same one saying why we deserved to die and all that Capitol propaganda about "forgiveness". Then, Crays pulled the name from the boys bowl and called the name - Micah Wild. I have never seen him before but I still feel bad for him, since we haven't had a victor for 9 years.
Then, Crays reads the name for the girl. I almost faint when I hear Crays say
"Levinie Birch".
I force myself to stay calm, I can't shown weakness or I may be targeted in the games. Crays tells me and Micah to shake hands, we do and then we are taken to the Justice Building.
I faint after the doors are closed and the last thing I remember is falling to the cold marble floor.
